So i'm watching The Hitcher on ITV and suddenly remembered the recent remake and it got me thinking...
Obviously some remakes are seen as equal or marginally better than the originals but can anyone name a remake of a movie that was better in every possible way?

Going through my DVD collection i cant see any..

The Fog (1980) - a pretty creepy chiller.

Star Trek (If that counts), i really liked this year's one.....Can't think of any other's though

It was a good movie but i think it was more a prequel than a remake.

Am I missing something?

You asked if anyone could name a remake of a movie that was better in every possible way, but go on to say The Fog (1980) was better than the The Fog (2005). So you're asking for remakes that are better, but starting with one that's inferior?

I don't mean to be a douche, but I'm genuinely confused with these 2 posts.

I just started with any remake to get the ball rolling, it just so happened that it was a rubbish remake,

Ok. It just threw me. It's been a long day.

If we're classing The Thing (1982) as a remake of The Thing From Another World (1951), then that was far superior in my opinion.

Scarface
Little Shop of Horrors
Casino Royale
Invasion of the Bodysnatchers

Off the top of my head I would have to say;

War of the worlds
The haunting
Texas chainsaw massacre

The Haunting and Texas Chainsaw Massacre... really? I'm not an elitist when it comes to film, but I thought those remakes were absolutely terrible, The Haunting in particular. It's about the only pre-1970s horror film that I found to be creepy, whilst other horrors of the time and previously tended to be overly campy, although I still enjoyed them. Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Owen Wilson together in a horror film really didn't work for me.

Yeah I kind of liked the remake of Texas Chainsaw massacre too, the haunting remake was absolute rubbish though. With regards to War of the worlds, ive only ever seen the spielberg/cruise version.

Casino Royale could only really get better though considering how bad the original was.
Invasion of the bodysnatchers (think thats the one with Donald Sutherland right?) is definately a great movie,

The 80's remake of the Fly was superior imo as was Gene Wilder's 'the Woman In Red.

The problem is re-makes usualy come from films that were great in the first place, so topping it will always be a tough task. Maybe they need to remake films that perhaps weren't as good, or weren't as well received by the public, in an attempt to rectify the wrongs and produce a film that does better.

Cape fear , great remake, De niro played the part to perfection.

Willy Wonka: original brilliant, remake terrible.

The ONLY remake so far listed that was better than the original

The person that mentioned War of The Worlds starring the Oompa Loompa needs a slap

but bad move imo

Different type of film from the ones listed so far, but I think the 1954 Doris Day / Frank Sinatra film 'Young at Heart' is miles better than the original 1938 'Four Daughters'.
