    Movies on 360

    Hey all,

My lad has got a 360 and i would like for him to play some movies - thing is i am a Sony fanboy and am unfamiliar with XBox.

The movies i have come in different formats and what i have access to is:

    xbox has a 500gb harddrive
    32gb USB
    1TB external harddrive.

I am looking for a no cost option and I don't want it to sync all my media (don't want him accessing Dads 'special' folder!). I just want to able to transfer a load of kiddy movies over for him so he has his own library.

What's the best/easiest way to get the movies playing?

    Ta!

I use an external hard drive plugged in to the usb port. think it has to be connected to live. will play most popular formats.

I used a memory stick plugged in via usb and play via system video player. Some formats fail, but most popular are fine.

You can also allow the Xbox to have access to a shared folder on your pc, which you can make sure only has suitable films in

I don't want to do streaming (although if i have to i will), i would prefer him to have a standalone system with a library of movies.

I'll plug in a hard drive and see what happens!

hdd is the best and easiest option then, it might need to do an update via live for the first time, after that it should be easy

downloaded Plex and installed on XBox - can't get any further without paying £3.99 per month, £31.99 per year or £119 for lifetime - feck that for wanting to play a few dvds!

no app needed, On the desktop page select the tv and movies tab, select my video apps, then system video player, then chose the portable device that's plugged in

I plugged in the 1TB hdd and the xbox doesn't even see it (went through the video player options).

format it? to what? It's also got 1TB of movies on it.

External harddrive plugged into 360 has to be fat32 ntfs won't work.

Easiest way is to convert all your movies into a xbox 360 friendly format or to stream from a PC. I think windows media player will link fine with the 360

Format a usb stick then copy some films onto it and give it a try, buy him his own usb here

OK, got Plex working and it's very good! Just not sure if i want him streaming all the time - i still would prefer to use the hdd option - will look at the formatting idea.
