Moving to temporary accomodation - No Internet. What are my options?

Found 26th Jul
I'm moving into temporary accomodation for a couple of months and don't want to set up any landline or broadband at that property.

I've only ever had unlimited broadband/landline since I can remember, so no idea how I can get internet for the couple of months. My mobile data is useless so that's out of the question!

It'll be for my laptop, and I would like the most data for as little as possible.

Anyone point me in the right direction? Cheers!

3G/4g dongle either on pay and go or 1 month contract.
You can use BT hotspot WiFi. £30 a month for 3 months.

Usual combination of unlocked non-3-branded Android pre-Marshmallow handset with FoxFi app + FoxFi key plus 3 PAYG SIM plus monthly add-on @ £35 for unmlimited 4G tethered by wifi, USB and/or bluetooth. Not support from 3 t&c / CS but physically functions without restriction. Optionally change APN from to 3internet to three.co.uk to bypass adult content filter (that also bizarrely otherwise includes some non-adult content sites). Also functions natively via some specific handsets such as
Oneplus 3t and some unlocked non3-branded mifi e.g. EE Osprey.

I've liked, but I didn't understand about 90% of it!
Could you not just get a three 24gb data sim, and tether?

Yes basically. I think that is what andyroyd above is trying to explain.

Need specific kit / apps to be able to functionally tether 3 data from a 3 handset SIM, hence the waffle about specific Android models and FoxFi etc.

So it's different for a laptop? Because I didn't have a problem tethering from my three sim, to my mother in laws tablet.
I think I just need something that will connect directly into my laptop - so that will be a dongle device with a data sim in it I guess?

I assume you are using a 3 contract SIM with an inclusive tethering allowance? For OPs case of max three months requirement, it would be PAYG option where PAYG requires the indicated Android models / apps to function unrestricted.

Yes, the only decision is how much data you want to use, and if you want it to be unrestricted you have only two options: the 3 option as indicated, or the 12month contract VM unlimited option that was only available to VM customers recently.

Yeah, contract with tethering.

I am a VM customer and will still be paying for their services even though I won't be using them for a few months.

What do VM offer? Thanks Andy

VM SIMO offers stated here which at time of post still includes the 12months £25 SIMO unlimited mobile data with tethering. I assume none of those will be of interest if you don't want a 12month commitment.
Don't suppose your temporary accommodation is over /near a cafe or public building? Near enough to use their WiFi? Just a thought.
Oh no gollywood, what's happened? hope you and wife didnt argue

Well she does think I spend more time on HUKD than with her.....
When I was in temp accomodation (6 months B&B then 4 months in a tiny 2 bed house) I started my first broadband package with line rental with Tiscali (now talk talk). I'm not saying you should go with them (as they are quite shit a lot of the time) but you can get a package which you can move house with when you finally get a place.
