MS Excel File - Saving Problems

Hello, I've got a spreadsheet which I've sent to my sister who uses MS Office 2003 and I use MS Office 2007, she can use the spreadsheet but has problems saving the spreadsheet, the following message comes up when trying to save:

This file was created using a later version of microsoft excel. If you save this file using microsoft excel 97, information created with features in the later version may be lost. To retain the information in the original file click No and use the Save As command (File menu) to save this file with a different name. To continue with the Save click Yes. Continue with save? Yes or No

Anyone had this problem before or know how to resolve it so that the file can be saved by a click of a button rather than viewing the above message each time when trying to save?

    Any thoughts or links appreciated.

    Thanks.

You can just save the file as excel 2003

Rather than just saving using the save button or the save icon. Select Save As. When the Save As dialog box appears use the drop down at Save As Type and Select Microsoft Excel 97-2002 - or use whatever one you need.

This will solve all the problems.

Had the same problem with a Word Document and changed it to 97-2003, worked fine went I sent that, done the same with the Excel file, before it wouldn't save at all, after changing it, the error message in my first post keeps popping up :?

Its not so much an error message as a warning - a similar thing will happen with most powerpoint files. Use 'save as' and Excel 97-2003 as said, double check everything looks okay but it should be fine!

I think it's just a warning message should be fine.

Install the patch on the older Office suite:
    microsoft.com/dow…=en

    Sorted

Office 2007 saves files with an x at the end, ie Letter.docx or Spreadsheet.xlsx etc and older versions of these programmes can struggle to open them. As already said use 'Save As' and save as Excel 97-2003 Workbook

You can set your Excel to always default save as 97-2003 file that way you'll get most compatibility when sending your files to others. Just go to "Excel Options" in the office button.
