Inform your bank and they will monitor the activity for you. Also change your passwords.

However dont freak out, the whole point of your virus scanner is to protect your pc from this sort of attack. Keep your virus software up to date (I would suggest upgrading to the paid version) and do a scan full scan on the pc for any other viruses.

If your pc is running slow I would suggest a good clean out and defrag may help. Windows Onecare virus checker includes a tool that tidys up your pc for you. You can do this in windows anyway, but the utility in onecare just makes it easier for you.

I've had P3's running quicker than Core 2 Duo's which have n times the performance advantage. It's down to the software on the machine and how its configured.

Im sure if you were to list what programs you have installed (Add Remove Programs) and what is running on startup (MSCONFIG) we could advise on what to install or remove from the startup making your machine run a lot better than it is.

Unfortunately, unlike a car, anyone can buy a PC although IMHO its more technical than a car and need a lot more "knowledge" to get it to function efficiently.

And to go against the previous poster, you dont need to upgrade to paid versions of Anti Virus software to be protected effectively.

If you need any more info just ask.

In some cases the antivirus software only picks up on one part of the malware, it's possible for a hidden piece somewhere which recreates the virus to ensure it can't be removed. I'd first try a search on the virus name to see if you can find any additional information on other components the virus could be using to create itself. If you're really stuck an alternativeis to delete the infected file then create a dummy file yourself with exactly the same name but set it to read only. If you have file security set up, remove all permissions from the file to make sure nothing should be able to touch it - I've used this solution on a machine (using security permissions) and it stopped the virus recreating itself.

Sorry for the delay, I've catching up on tv

Species 8472 from the Star Trek Voyager episode Scorpion, kind of Die Hard on a spaceship. TV movie when they fight the Borg and a species that can beat the Borg, real kick ass action....

If it keeps bugging you just go for a drive wipe, get the files you want to keep onto flash drive and do a clean sweep. Its a ****** (er pain in the bum) and takes ages but much better than the damn things getting into your cmos. It will be knackered if that happens!!

Did C'tain Janeway save the day with that super torpedo whatnot thingamy and get an agreement from the Borg to pass safely through their space? Never trust the Borg!

Dan, looking at the pic you have posted, is it in your system restore file by any chance? The prefix c:\volume information, isn't that a system restore file? Not ideal, but turn off system restore and that will delete all system restore files and might get rid too..... i could be waffling

By the way Dan, you're probably best off just doing a clean install if possible. I've had trojans in the past and no amount of anti virus/spyware or registry hacking has managed to kill them completely. Total pain in the ****.

So you mean just reboot my pc from scratch - better back up my rollercoaster tycoon saves :-D

Ah thats gunna be a pain

You delete system restore files by:

    go to windows explorer
right click your hard disk, c is my assumption
    properties
    disk clean-up
    disk clean-up will run
    select the more options tab
bottom right button (of 3) will be clean up system restore
click it, and it will say it will delete all but your most recent restore point
    click ok

Now, to turn off system restore (and make sure it deletes them all)
    Start
    control panel
    performance and maintenance
    system restore (upper left corner)
ensure the tick box, turn off system restore on all drives is ticked.

That should clear all system restore files.

Of course, you won't be then able to use system restore but a clean install of windows might be your answer.

I always post this now, but what i do, is partition my hd, 10gb or so for c drive for the OS and the rest for all my files.
I install windows, and all else i need. Then i use old skool, norton ghost from dos and create an image of my c drive onto a dvd so instead of having to do a full install next time, i just install from the image, which wipes my c but keeps my other partition, which of course i have to regularly back up to.

Just helps when having to reinstall. Only stuff i have to back up from c prior to loading image is my msn chat and emails that way

takes time and discipline but a clean re-image every few months helps the machine stay clean

So its not just me then. I use Acronis and create a clone image on a spare drive, if the one i'm using dies for whatever reason I just plug the clone in, boot up and sort the problem:-D

Seems you are not alone Shengis lol
I just hate having the risk of all my personal files getting virused, i don't mind losing XP once in a while. Saying that, i am running zone-alarm full version, spybot with tea-timer addon and adaware.
But the ability to restore xp, and the only stuff i need to do is update the antivirus updates and perhaps a few MS ones is less painful than 1 hour almost to format, install windows. Then, having to spend more time adding all the software i use for other stuff. I have spybot, adaware, sopcast etc on my usb stick and install all stuff like that from there.
Like i say, takes discipline and a whole lotta luck
I don't use a spare drive, just image to dvd and restore from that

I keep telling myself to do this each time I make a fresh install... but just never get round to doing so! (Always too eager to populate it with goodies!)

I lost one of my machines about 2 years ago to a virus - and it did its worst to spread itself across my network. My own fault. My Avast license had expired and just hadnt got round to getting a fresh license. A mistake I haven't repeated!

Ive got to do a fresh install on my littluns machine - so will probably take an image this time. Not sure what went wrong to be honest. I flashed the firmware of the DVDR drive (my littlun wasnt to know he was changing region codes and had run out of changes!). After a reboot, it seemed fine and region code removed. Next bootup and windows starts loading, but never finishes. Even in safe drive. Tried last known working point, but still no joy.

Annoyingly, the machine has 2x200GB SATA drives - and found out that the floppy drive now also doesnt seem to work (so no F6 to install the drivers.) Also puts out using system recovery console.

Computers can be a real pain in the bum sometimes!

Try the secure recovery zone in acronis true image, you can always copy to disc too.

Move your docs/settings/data to another partition before cloning, then you loss nothing apart from updates

Because acronis and some others are a bit pants at disk partitioning, I would google GParted LiveCD 0.3.4.7

Never come across that before, any time AVG has found a threat it's been genuine and if it's been unable to remove that it's not an imposed limitation of the free version as the full version could not remove it either.

I just go in the virus vault and click wipe from virus vault does that eman its deleted - might do another scan today

Not necessarily - it's possible the virus has various components and AVG is only detecting and deleting one part of it. If you delete it through AVG and it still appears on scans (or a very similar name) then you need to try and track down where the malignant malware is.
