I wonder if you can help me understand this. The woman i work with tell lies about her relationship with the GPs in her area. All sorts of rubbish, " i was in bed with Dr so an so" and its all lies! Dr **** was in my house at the weekend on a house call, eating cream cakes on my bed. All lies.Nobody wants to confront her as its so pathetic, however if these GPs hear about this they will not be at all happy. Why is she doing this?

Attention seeking

Or

Hoping someone will like her fantasies - and bite! She may be fishing!

I can't stand this kind of attitude - it starts out as a little bit funny, but becomes very annoying.

Coz shes a wannabe **** bag?

Why is she doing this?

She must be a bit of a loony! She may actually be medically ill, I wonder if theres a term for this !!

especially if shes saying she had sex with one of them

as you said .. its a fantasy she needs to make more "real" by sharing with someone...

..hopefully she doesn't actually believe it..

equally hopefully it isnt true!!

A doctor can be seen as a caring individual with a great deal of power. Perhaps she is turned on by this, who knows?

Challenging peoples beliefs like this is best not done by just anyone as it can have damaging repercussions. Similarly, I wouldn't encourage them either. Just change the subject when she makes mention of it.

What do you expect to achieve by confronting her? In all probablity you will just upset her and/or anger her. She may become very distressed. Do you really want to do that?

id like her to stop lying to me, she does not mind distressing others i have to say

How bizarre! Cream cakes in bed - how raunchy

leave her to her fantasies - ok she is a bit sad - so what - who is she hurting - no - one

if it was a guy saying this would you really be concerned for the doctor or just put it down as 'guy bragging'

thats what i think, i mean there is a strong possibility the doctors could find out, id crack up if i found it was my husband/wife she was talking about.

some people can have certain conditions where they don't even "realise" they are lying as such.

I think you need to be a little more tactful here and as I said before.. just change the subject when she begins with her sexually laden fantasies.

If you want to put her in her place, just tell her you have no interest in hearing what she has to say on that subject and speak to her in a purely professional context only.

Reminds me of a woman i used to work with, she used to tell stories that she'd read in magazines that others had read in our workplace too and pass these stories off as her own life, she told lies about other stuff all the time too,one day a staff member confronted her about it and she threw a wobbly and walked out of her job there and then!

I don't think even if the doctors " found out" it would be of any interest to them. Unless someone wishes to have "help" so long as they aren't a danger to themselves or others they aren't going to be forced to accept any.

I think the Dr's in question have this all the time. Not sure why you're so concerned about them though?

because in showing her to be false it tore down not only her fantasies but the little world she had conjoured up inside her head to make her life more palatable. She probably found the situation incredibly upsetting and went and hid.

Some people drink, some take drugs, some lie to themselves and others to survive from day to day. it's all the same really.

They may be interested, especially if she is a patient at their surgery … They may be interested, especially if she is a patient at their surgery or has ever had patient/dr contact. Also what else would she be prepared to lie about, not to mention in the medical profession mud sticks. She could cause a lot of trouble and the dr's themselves would be within their rights to address this using legal avenues.

I was considering whether she actually worked for a doctor's surgery but I judged from craigs posts that they don't. I'm sure that as in the case with other professionals just as when teens develop a crush on their teacher this would be treated with kid gloves generally. If she was made to substantiate her claims she probably cannot do so.

Hope Robson Green doesn't find out, about what i imagine him doing !!!!!!!!!!!!

Many people exagerrate (or plain lie) about their achievements to make themselves seem more interesting, sexy or whatever.

If this woman lives on her own and has few (or any) friends she may hear everyone else at work talking about how they have been out on the town or had an interesting weeked, and she feels left out and useless.

Only by inventing stories about herself will she feel that people will take notice of her.

After all, if she came in to work and told everyone about her evening watching TV and feeding the cat nobody would be in the slightest bit interested.

There was a case recently about a woman in the US who claimed her boyfriend had been killed in the twin towers disaster, and she had been saved from the 70th floor (one of the few people to survive at that height).

She appeared on TV, was interviewed by newspapers and radio stations, and even became a guide at the ground zero site.

One TV station did some research and found she did not have a boyfriend, did not know anyone who had died in the twin towers, and had never worked there herself so could not be rescued from any floor, let alone the 70th floor.

Turns out she made the whole thing up.

So some people lead lives of such boredom that the only way to seem interesting is to lie.

I remember reading about that case. Yes, people do lie for this reason and many others.

I'd be inclined to show this woman kindness and yet still keep enough distance to not get drawn into her fantasies.

I don't think there's anything to gain from making people feel embarrassed, exposed and distressed by challenging them.

Yep, wouldn't want my husband finding out about my fantasies either!

sounds like trouble,,,

Problem is the GP could get into serious trouble over it... Best to nip it in the bud asap.

I see some of the points of view - and they are certainly worth thinking about treating her with kindness!

I worked with a similar women, which provoked my initial response... To cut a long story short, she near on destroyed a family. SHe was terribly poor at her job, and her lies made my stomach churn. In the end I left my job because I couldn't stand working with her!

I get the impression that Craig guy doesn't like this girl. Sometimes people lies can badly affect the lifes of others, and though they are quite sane otherwise, they don't consider anyone else but themselves.

It's very sad!

Hide the knives, she's a nutter
