HI IAM NOT THAT GOOD WITH COMPUTERS WHATS A ISP:oops:

    id sooner change your keyboard.

I was with talktalk, I always used to get this problem, it was diabolical, ask to terminate the contract, there call centres are a waste of time.

Had the same problem last recently with my BT connection - connection just kept dropping. BT talked me through various settings changes but nothing worked. Eventually they send me a new home hub and it's been fine since...

by any chance are you using homeplugs?

    hey there
believe me ive felt your frustration. It will not change or improve aslong as your with talktalk. Ive been with talktalk for 2 years and had the same problems ... sometimes we'd lose connection for up to 2 weeks at a time. My partner would constantly be on the phone and was always fobed off.he said hed reloaded the system that many times that he could now work for talktalk... when we tried to leave them we found out that they had swapped our bt phoneline to a talk talk line without telling us, so therefore it would cost £135 to reconnect and go with anyone else. However we joined up to virgin media which was £30 connection fee for new line ond £4.50 per month, we have had this service for approx 4 weeks and we have not lost connection once with them
hope you get it sorted soon ... regards allison

If its a problem with the local network (which I suspect it is) changing ISP is going to do nothing. Do you have any noise (crackling) on the voice side of your line?

My dad had the same problems when he changed from tiscali to talk talk, they kept fobbing him off saying its the router he was using (his own) the filters (again self supplied) the cables etc etc. It just kept going on and on until I got on to them and told them the router was in the master socket, three different routers tried, filters replaced with known working ones etc etc, in the end they had a openreach engineer come out who diagnosed a loose connection at the exchange where we had gone onto a local loop unbundling system, he then allowed us to copy the engineers report as he said Talktalk would try and fob us off that nothing was wrong, they did saying as no fault was found the fault must be internal and we had a £80 call out fee, I then told them we had a copy of the engineers report and they said we will double check and get back to you, turned out they "had made a clerical error" and the fault was external after all.

    really sorry about the caps

Have you tired the router directly into the "test" socket of the NTE5. like this http://www.readman.dsl.pipex.com/other/UKphonecatwiring_files/image012.jpg

hi yes we tried it like that but got no joy

if its worse when its raining could be a fault with the line, i used to get that with overhead lines when i lived in a remote spot, apparently the caps on the pole connectors break and water gets in.
This was given away by bad crackling on the voice line during wet weather, line always passes the automatic line test tho even if u can't hear anything.
You will need to call your phone provider for that one, my mrs has talktalk dsl and it rarely loses connection.

    The problem persissted?

Ive been hearing talk talk is pretty rubbish with service, with quite a few complaints such as this hence the quick suggestion of switching. But when you say it gets worse when it rains, it could mean damage to your phone network. When you "talk" on the phone, is there any crackling from the other side as well as your own? If no crackling etc, it could mean the modem, as suggested. Tried another one? If not, it could be as simple as the cable. Try changing the cable and make sure there is no damage to it.

Tried changing the cable still the same.No crackling on either side of phone.Havent changed modem yet

longer shot, but motherboard? the connection might be loose. I had that problem with my really old pc

Are you losing synch on the router/ is the DSL light going out and retraining (flashing).

    Original Poster

Am using a new tower it happend on my old one as well

    Original Poster

hi yes it does flash and fades ,when it disconects it says there is no dial tone

you using a USB modem and not a router then?

    Original Poster

yes i am using a usb modem

Try the talk talk groups as someone else suggested, they may be able to escalate the fault to openreach if need be.

    Original Poster

thanks i think i will try the talktalk forum,or do you think if i brought my know router things would be better.

You could try a router if you have one

    Original Poster

Dont have a router can you suggest a good one to buy

If you stick with talk talk, they'll probably send you one for free now. Most ISPS offer free wireless routers. Ring talktalk or the website mentioned explain your problem, if they don't do anything threaten to go elsewhere for your broadband
