My MOT expires today but car is still in garage for repairs.

My car is still in the garage as there are problems trying to find out what is causing the problem with it. The garage has had the car for nearly two weeks now. My MOT expires today - I did tell them at the garage that it expired today but they said they would not MOT it until they had sorted out the electrical problem with it. I'm just about worried about the fact that from tomorrow my car has no MOT on it (is taxed and insured) - will the DVLA contact me and possibly fine me for this? Or, am I supposed to contact them to say that my car is in the garage for repairs? Thank you.

no issues with your car not having a valid mot ... aslong as it's not driving on the road it is not illegal .
you do not have to inform anybody , & you will not be fined
as long as you are not driving it that's fine
And when it is repaired. Arrange mot with the garage let them know your reg. You are allowed to drive to mot appointment without having valid mot...

Does it have to be sorn then, if not being driven? Thank you.

No . Sorn is for when you are taking it off the road completely . Just get it mot'd when it is fixed

True.
don't think so if it's not going to be long. Sorn is for tax as far as I know x
Thank you all for your advice, feel a lot happier now realising that I won't get a fine through the post for an expired MOT!

Sorn relates to the Road Fund Licence (car tax) as mentioned above and has nothing to do with the MOT.

Generally true but they are slightly related, you can't get car tax if you don't have a valid MOT.

Oh my god this one lol. Please cut your losses and scrap it op its not worth fixing these cars were crap when they were new lol
If your MOT has run out you can take your vehicle to:

have the failed defects fixed
a pre-arranged MOT test appointment
In both cases, your vehicle still needs to meet the minimum standards of roadworthiness at all times or you can be fined.
