My neighbour walks like an elephant.

I'm wondering what you reckon I should do. I've had new neighbours move into the flat above me and one of them clearly has no idea how to walk properly. She is like a heavy footed elephant stomping around the place. It feels like we've had someone come in and invade our nice peaceful flat all of the time.

Should I just go upstairs and speak to her about it or put a letter in her post box? Maybe I should buy her a pair of super soft slippers as a moving in present.

so far I'm leaning towards putting mice through the letterbox

Next time you have a chat, get the conversation around to something where she says she was in that day, and you can say - really, oh, I thought you were out, I usually hear you stomping around like a baby elephant up there. She'll be too taken aback to get shirty with you, and later when it sinks in, she'll creep about for a while. Won't last though, I suggest you buy the top floor flat and move. I'm afraid my husband belongs to the elephant class of walker, and I blame his upbringing. He was brought up entirely in bungalows and flats, so has no idea of the effect on people living beneath - until he lived with me and went for a bath wile I was watching telly. NOT FUNNY!

drill a hole in the ceiling and grab her foot when she walks by then start sawing at her ankle until she promises to shuffle round on her bum for the rest of her tenancy

Wait till shes stomping around while one of the others from that flat is passing yours. Then ask them in "for a cuppa" so they'll hear it.

I think I will just send the girlfriend up to have a word. That way it's not a big intimidating man going up to have a word, plus it means I get to get out of doing it.

im glad you didnt take all there advise as they were just being stupid.
    glad shes stoped stomping

Be careful as it may make the neighbour think you are just a grump or it may be you are thinking the banging about is louder than it is.

Ironically I love the sound of people upstairs though not to extremes,

Last year had a neighbour be a major pain and shout scream and swear at me on various occasions for apparantly keeping him awake.

Interestingly though he said he never heard a single sound from my flat before he went to bed, and I found out he complained about every tenant who lived in property the entire time he lived in his flat and he accused me of staying up all night every night, walking around in heavy boots, having guests round all the time etc.

I walked around barefoot and on some occasions in slippers and left shoes at door and only had a friend round once for a few days and when I did went to bed 12.30am each night(as in half past midnight) and my mum came round twice during the day.

It could be they have wooden flooring or many issues so dont go up and just moan or try and sugar coat it, just say that the flooring is such that it makes a lot of noise and you dont want to be a bother but they creak and it gets a bit much so if possible could they wear slippers or something.

i used to have a neighbour that you could hear her screaming all day, i just started banging the wall ( marked all my paint but worth it) until she shut up . after a couple of times she must have got the hint as it was soo peaceful. and she never mentioned to me about it when i met her lol.
