N95 8GB TomTom sat nav external GPS HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a n95 8gb and have tomtom maps installed on it.
now the maps allow me to connect through GPRS which costs me each time i use it.
I can connect using an external GPS device using bluetooth but wanted to know if i buy an external bluetooth GPS device will it cost me each time i use it?
I dont think it will as it doesn't use my phone internet or anything it uses the external GPS device but i am unsure and want confirmation.

The N95 has a built in GPS module, thats one of its main selling points

but it costs to use it,

If you use an external gps and the tomtom software, then it shouldnt cost you any extra.

Whats the point in having the internal gps on these phones when you have to pay extra to use them? I have a N78 and pointless to use the built in gps as I have an external one whicj I can use for free.

you pay £150-200 for a phone which is supposed to have gps but they charge you for using it.

You need to turn off Assisted GPS, it confirms your location using GPRS so it's more accurate than just using GPS alone. I'm installing loads of stuff on my N95 at the minute but it's in the connection settings somewhere

    en.wikipedia.org/wik…GPS

Tools>Settings>General>Positioning>Positioning Methods> then untick 'Assisted GPS'

It isn't set up right if it is charging to use GPS (not GPRS - that is different) - I installed TomTom on my mates N95 8gb and it works on the internal GPS without charging. I also put Garmin on and he uses whichever he wants. Use google to search - there are loads of forums which explain.

That's exactly it - without this it will only use the internal GPS which costs nothing but be aware the initial lock will be much slower.

I tend to use a bluetooth GPS unit when I need it to be quick and accurate, these separate units are cheap and can lock on quickly plus hold the lock well.

Mate it's not Nokia, it's your service provider charging you. Maybe you are so cheap to not have an unlimited data tariff

A-GPS gives you faster lock ons and more accurate location data for the program you are using, especially good for when in built up areas, I've told you above how to turn it off as well so you don't get charged.
