    NAS Help Please

I am thinking of purchasing an inexpensive NAS preferably with 2 spaces for hard drives.

But a few questions which I'm hoping you can help with...

Will 360/PS3 play all video/music/photos I put on it?
Can I download torrents directly to NAS?
Can I put my hard drive straight in or will it format it to its own file system?

    Cheers in advance.

I have a ReadyNAS drive which is what you would need.
I use it with the ps3 to stream movies/tv programs/pictures
I download torrent directly to it too.
It normally comes with a hard drive and formats it in its own file system.

If you are interested i have a brand new one which i want to sell. Let me know.

Cool, well let me know how much you are looking for it then we could start a FS/FT thread. Although I already have a 500gb HDD to drop into it but need the information off it first and no longer have a desktop PC.

i use the Dlink DNS-320.. Great little box! fairly cheap too.

The one i have is a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo RND2000 2 bays (with no drives) (i have drives it you require)
Looking for £110 its brand new sealed. (i paid more for it)
If you are interested then i will make a FS thread.

Not always. You can buy a ReadyNas without any hard drives, or with a 1Tb or with a 2Tb already installed.

Sometimes there are deals with a ReadyNas and one "free" hard drive.

I got my ReadyNas about 6 months ago with a deal of one "free" 2Tb drive.

Yeah £110 is way over my budget as otherwise I'd just use an external enclosure. I was looking at the dlink 320 as it's inexpensive.
Yeah I've round streaming from the laptop to ps3 has more inconsistencies then with the xbox over media centre but still not even 90% of my files.
Also I need to ensure it can download torrents directly and preferably upload if possible.
Guessing if they use ext file system then it's Linux based nas which makes sense to run on them.

Thanks for the comments so far.

I was looking into a NAS recently, and I was tempted when this was £42 at ibood: amazon.co.uk/dp/…819?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=****&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B003FZB6C8
I didn't get it as can't justify getting one at the moment, and the pink is pretty horrendous, but it doesn't have to be on sow and the reviews were good and price reasonable.

Sickly sweet - I don't care about the colour as it will most likely be hidden but not sure if I like that idea.
Dcx - yeah the 320 or 323 are basically the same price and within price range, what do you find better about the HP out of interest?

Ah cool, 2 drives is fine for me for now. Again speed is useful but as long as it's average transfer speed then thats fine.

You could always look into building a cheap ish server, mine was about £120 and runs WHS fine. Is great for what I want it for

Server side is too complex and time consuming for my needs as I was thinking a media centre pc but then when I think how easy streaming from the laptop to ps3 and xbox is I can't warrant the cost. Same as a server really.

Just want something to hold more then my laptop and be more stable ie all on wired connections not wireless. And if I can download and upload torrents as well that would be perfect and save my laptop being left on
