you can buy the ticket on the day, but it may be more expensive...

You could buy them on the day but it's a lot more expensive.

If you purchase your tickets a week in advance, you can get them upto a 1/3 of the price.

When I last travelled back from up north, my train ticket back cost around £11 and they made an annoucement on the train that if you don't already have a ticket, you have to quickly buy one for £110.

    I couldn't believe it.

Moral of the story...buy as much in advance as possible, as the prices rapidly increase closer to to the time.

No worries mate, I always assumed that companies would rather sell tickets for dirt cheap in dying moments to avoid having half empty trains but they increase there prices like crazy and then wonder why they're making losses.

Anyway mate, apparanlty, if you book trains 3 weeks in advance, then it's even cheaper but like I said, make sure you book it at least a week in advance and be flexible with your times, as you'll make a huge saving for possibly leaving an hour earlier/later etc.

Also make sure you book 2 singles, which works out cheaper than a return but with a return, you can travel at any time in the day, even if you miss your train.

    Hope that helps.

:giggle: ok mate but bare in mind how expensive it'll be...check online prices now at www.nationalexpress.com to see how much it'll cost you if you want to book your train in an hour and then compare it to more flexible times.
