I got my nectar card from homebase last week. I've been told that I erned 1000 points from my last transction and that I can use these point to shop in argos/sainsburys.

How would that work? Do I pay with my nectar card or do I apply for vochers?

Spot on

if you sign up to nectar on line you can earn points through their various partners, also Sainsburys have a leaflet, also on line with special offers you can 'buy' with points.

you can request paper vouchers at the nectar site.
