Need a laptop for uni + photoshop and After effects?

Hi there, I'm currently looking for a laptop that is under £300. I will need to run photoshop, Microsoft office and after effects. I was taking a look at this laptop but I don't know if it will be able to run these programs efficiently? m.ebay.co.uk/itm…r=1

if any of you guys have any recommendations I'd greatly appreciate it.

Doesn't everyone insist on a Macbook for Uni these days? X)

That may not be the best option for running After Effects, depending on your requirements. Are you going to be doing heavy editing?

Yup I will be most likely doing some heavy editing. If a macbook is what I need, I surely have the funds to get it but wasn't thinking of spending that much.

You don't need a Macbook for After Effects, that was a joke

But I would recommend something better if you wish to do heavy editing.

Is there anything in particular you'd recommend? Having trouble since I usually buy or build pcs.

I'd recommend a Dell Inspiron or if your budget can stretch further a Dell XPS.

Do you have a .ac.uk email address yet? Dell offer 15% student discount (sure it applies to the outlet too).

Sorry but I too am more of a desktop person so cannot recommend any particular laptops.

Personally I'd be looking for something with an i5 or perhaps even an i7 if you're going to be doing some heavy editing. 8GB RAM is fine, no lower though. Plus I would recommend replacing the drive for an SSD unless one is pre-installed.

i5 is fine for editing, don't bother with an i7 as you are trying to save money. I have an i3 Haswell and it works fine for editing, but sometimes the extra horsepower would be nice

I disagree, if the OP is going to be doing heavy editing they are going to want something half decent. By all means I am not suggesting that just going for an i7 is the best idea, it depends on the model ect... but a cheap £200 laptop is not ideal for that use.

Oops forgot too add, I meant desktop CPU not laptop CPU. Laptop ones are way too weak.

That makes sense, so the info you've offered isn't really relevant.

Meh. I'll probably buy a chromebook to take notes and build a pc. easiest solution imo

If the laptop doesn't need to be moved too often, maybe look at the pc specialist stuff. Some of their chassis take desktop cpu. They aren't the lightest but can be configured as required.
