Im sure its wrong so might come back to you

Sweet, Hope works well for you.
Them VGA cables are (mostly) all the same, 1 pin connected to another pin on the over side etc..
Remember you'll not get sound threw them you'll have to run another cable from headphone (or line out) to TV ot Amp. PM if your having problems.
Also most notebooks have a key combination (Fn + Some Function key ie F8) to output picture to your TV.
Normally the key (function key) have a picture of Tv or something like that

So to get sound its another cable? sorry but im very amateur at this.

What type of cable would i need?

What kind of connectors do you have on your TV?
and what kind on your computer?
The cable you get depends on the sockets you want to connect to.

Are you certain you have VGA on both your computer and TV? or does one have a dvi socket?
do you have HDMI sockets on either or both the computer and TV?

IF your only using normal vgs yes you will need an audio lead, basically an earphone lead with the same socket both ends, one connects to your computer and the other to the tv.

You'll also have to configure your tv to display the computer output, and if you have 2 sockets on your graphics card, you'll have tro tell your computer that you have a tv on the 2nd output and set the resolution.

Nothing is simple in this world.

Normally its a standard 3.5 headphone jack on your PC.(below)

But the other end, depends on how your setting it up, some TVs allow you to plug directly (3.5) into your TV.
Some Tv's you need to have adaptor to change the 3.5 jack to Composite (below)
