    Need advice on a car suitable for 3 child seats.

    It has been confirmed no.3 is due at the end of November. I am looking for suggestions for cars that can take 3 child car seats.

    At present got an A4 Avant, don't know if that will fit 3 as haven't tried it yet.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    (Ages of kids will be 5,3 and newborn.)

    Is that from experience? What car seats do you have?

    At present we have a graco booster seat and a britax car seat.

    Thought could try the booster in the middle but it would be difficult to fasten the seat belt.

    Umm...no not from experience, I HAD an Audi A4 Avant it seems like you can get three in there, I mean you can have 2 @ the back and 1 @ the front.

    I have an a4 and you can fix the newborn seat in the centre (uses its own belts) and have 2 booster seats either side:thumbsup:

    ohhhh yeah where talking about booster seats

    Ive got an 8 month old, a 2 year old and a 6 year old and bought a citroen xsara picasso to fit them all in. It has the added height too and large boot space so its perfect for us. We have 3 full size child seats in the back, no booster seats so there is definately plenty of space for them

    Going from an A4 Avant to a Citroen Picasso (which I have) would be quite a downgrade though :giggle:

    How about a Q7, it's the kids I am thinking about :thumbsup:

    Cheers everyone.

    No offense but I couldn't see myself driving a Picasso. Will have to get the baby seat with base out of the attic and see if I can get the booster, maxi cosi and the baby seat all in the back seat. Need to keep the front seat free just in case the wife wants to come in the car aswell.:whistling:

    Was just wondering if there was any nice and not too expensive car out there that would do the job.

    Cheers for your help guys rep added

    Most 'family' cars will not take 3 child booster seats side by side, in my opinion (presume that is what you are really trying to do if you dont want to leave Mrs behind:-D). I think the car seat and car manufatuers should talk!

    The shape of the boosters is generally not ideal and often with the shape of the seats in the back of most modern cars, they dont sit right. I have a BMW estate (:oops:) .. rubbish even with 2 seats in it !!! I hear the Passat is pretty good for space, though with 3 kids you are probably looking to an estate or similar if you do a lot of travelling with all the gubbins.

    Mrs used to have a Zafira - was good for space but not much get up and go and a bit tinny. Have you considered the new Honda CRV - very sleek and engine pretty good. Looks a bit like the X3/Merc 4x4's but very economical?

    Cheers Rockhound, I will give the seats a shot at the weekend and see how it goes. Don't really want to get a new car but if I do it will have to be low on emissions and diesel as I prefer the economy on long trips and don't want GB to get any more tax off me if I can help it.

    Thought about the FRV by honda but not seen it up close in the flesh yet.

    Check out the Toyota Corolla Verso - their back seats (it may only be 2 of them though so you'll need to check) have this really nifty way of converting from a normal seat to a booster seat by folding up the seat pad......

    Also maybe look at the Mazda MPV - not sure how economical it is though. It does have the advantage of having sliding rear doors - a significant advantage when trying to kids in a normal car park....

    Fiat Multipla - don't knock it - fantastic space.

    In vehicles where seat belts are fi tted, children 3 years
    to 135 cms in height (approx 4ft 5ins) MUST use the
    appropriate child restraint.
    • Three exceptions allow these children to travel in
    the rear and use an adult belt :-
    - in a taxi, if the right child restraint is not available;
    - for a short distance in an unexpected necessity, if the
    right child restraint is not available;
    - where two occupied child seats in the rear prevent
    the fitment of a third child seat.
