Need an avi trimmer and converter

I need an avi trimmer does anyone have an activation code for one?

Can you tell me i need a programme to turn a "file" in to avi/divx as i have uploaded a tv show from my humax freeview box recorder. I right click properties on the tv show it just says file, but it does play on kmplayer. But i want to send this to my sister.

    Cheers

I don't really understand what you mean by you need an activation code for an avi trimmer - if you are requesting a license code for a piece of software which can trim avi's then that's not allowed on here. However if you are looking for a free avi trimmer then I highly recommend Virtualdub which doesn't even need installed and is easy to trim avi's. You simply hold shift to find the start point then press insert and then the same again for the end clip (but pressing end instead), then ensuring direct stream copy is enabled you can save your new trimmed avi. Plenty of guides out there on how to do this with more detail.

With regards to your second query you need to find out what the first file is before you can do anything with it, I'd recommend a small free program called Gspot which you feed the file into and it will tell you exactly what codecs are used within the file. I'd then try something like SUPER which is a free video encoding program and can convert between pretty much any video format.

Coolio John i will defiantely check this out. Thanks very much for the info grealty appreciated. Have you every used free dvd ripper? I was using this for a short time and it stopped working, when i click start encoding, error message appears, MPEG2Dec: Error during reading input file. Any ideas? I have reset all the defaults to try to fix this.

I haven't used that software but it's happening straight away it sounds like it's not decoding the vob, you may need playback software to do this first with free software.

What do ya mean by playback software, u mean nero or summot similiar what about a dvd codec? I think it may be a codec that i dont have because i didi uninstall all my codecs a nd reinstalled the vista codec package, that didnt help so i installed k lite, still not joy.

Some re-encoding software, particularly freeware does not have its own DVD decrypter which means they cannot read the encrypted DVD vob files and instead request that you start your DVD playback software first which unlocks the files.

The file type i want to convert is

    File Type: MPEG-2 Transport Stream
    Mime Type: video/mp2t

Dont think super will do it, although it does have m2t. Maybe its vista it doesnt like it.
