Need help burning videos...

I am using Nero 7 to burn 700mb videos to DVDs...

The problem is that it takes an 1hour 30mins to completely burn...

Is there any way to make it faster. Alternatively what other software is there that is better and quicker?

Thanks.

A little bit more info may be helpful.

First of all, what type of video are the 700mb files? I would guess they're maybe .AVI?

Are you simply burning the files to disc as a data disc or are you converting the files to DVD-Video (MPEG2) so they play on a standard set-top DVD player?

I don't convert any of the videos before i burn them as i only use them to play on a standard DVD player / PS3

Use ConvertXtoDVD or WinAVI

That will convert them to DVD format and then burn them, if you just want to burn the avi's to disc try Imgburn

OK, so just to be clear, are the files on the burnt DVD still AVI or do you now have AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders - or maybe something different.?

Right then, have you tried burning anything else (to either CD or DVD) and if you have did it take just as long?

Do you remember what setting the write speed was set to?

And while we're at it, what version of Windows are you using?

Well burning music using windows media player obviously takes a lot less, but all videos burnt using Nero take about the same time..

I burn using 16x as it is the biggest option and i'm using Windows Vista

Cd burner xp cdburnerxp.se/

Works for me!

it should take around 2 minutes maximum at 16x to burn a 700mb data dvd!

It's being burnt as a DVD buddy.. not a DVD Data disc...

So you need to convert the avi to DVD format to play in a standard DVD player that doesn't support avi or DivX formats?

If that's so use ConvertXtoDVD or WinAVI.

I'm guessing your drive has an IDE connection so it may be worth checking the transfer mode...

Open up the ]device manager and expand the IDE ATA/ATAPIcontrollers section.
You should see Primary IDE Channel and Secondary IDE Channel - your DVD drive is probably on secondary channel but check both anyway.
Double click on each IDE channel, click on the Advanced tab and look at the Transfer Mode and Current Transfer Mode - you should see either DMA or PIO.

Theres your reason for it taking so long. The AVI is being converted within nero to the required Video and Audio files needed to make the DVD.

As mentioned try converting the file first to DVD format then burning it. As Nero tends to take longer converting the files

If you're watching them on a PS3 or a DVD standalone that plays avi files - you don't need to convert them.

Open Nero and burn the dvd using the udf/iso mode.

You should then be able to see the files on the PS3/DVD as separate movie files.

then you are completely misquoting yourself as you said the avi was just added as a file on the dvd.

anyway, nerovision is what you are using (not NERO) and it is consideably slower than other software.

I use Convertxtodvd. A 1.4GB 2 hour film takes around 25 minutes to convert and burn to disk using OPTIMAL settings.

I just burn the avi files as a DATA DVD in nero. PS3/divx player has no problems with this.
