Need help on Sony Bravia P3020 LCD

This sound to be silly ...but am struggling to find the port.

Do you know whether there is any optical out connection on Sony Bravia P3020 LCD TV ?
I searched net, and says iy got. But i cant see where exactly it is...i lost my TV spec and any help is much appreciated.

I bought an AV reciever/amp. I would like to know how the optical connection has to be done from an amplifier from LCD TV. mine is bravia 3020P series and its mentioned in the specification that its got optical out. But i cant match the optical cable i got with the amp. with the TV, Its some (TOS Link) in my LCD TV as per internet but the optical cable and socket is not matching.

Hi, the Sony site doesn't list your tv as having optical out, and after reading through the instruction manual it appears that it doesn't have optical out.. There's a pic of the connections in the manual and there's no TOSlink socket.. If there was it would be by the side of the red and white phono out sockets (just as it is on my Sony V3000)

    Sorry dude..

To be fair, most optical out's on TVs are a waste of time since they are only 2 channel. There would be hardly any difference between this and the phono outs.

]This would seem to indicate my original thoughts that only 2 channel dolby is passed through the optical outs.

What Sony TV do you have?

Many thanks guys. So it looks like my sony bravia (P3020) dont have the optical out though its mentioned on some places that this do have.
I tried connecting HDMI from TV to Amplifier, that doo didnt work.
Even my DVD player which do not have HDMI.

So i am opting to connect DVD - TV by Scart cable and AVI cables for DVD - Amplifier (for sound).

Also AVI cables for TV - Amplifier.

Is that only configuration is the only option left out for me ? But this never give me the 5.1 effect?

Then i may need to upgrade my DVD to 5.1 with HDMI out socket.

40V3000... :-D and that forum post you linked to isn't saying the optical out on sony sets is only stereo, its saying that you can't use it as a dolby/dts pass through when using a 5.1 dvd player connected via hdmi.. the optical out on these sets is for the dolby 5.1 from the inbuilt freeview tuner (it even explains why it doesn't work as a pass through - the hdmi inputs only accept linear pcm and not dolby via hdmi)

It won't give you 5.1 but your tv should send dolby pro logic to your amp via the sound cables, so you will get a surround effect at least..

    Yes, thats true.

Also i got a better link which tells the connection guide from ceaconnectionsguide.com/

even i tried with HDMI cable connection between TV & Amp but didnt work(i guess it woks only between DVD & Amp for some reason).

Are you sure about 5.1 output from freeview? There's nothing in the manual or specifications which support this. Have you got an article to support this at all ?

EDIT: scrap that - found it on p25. It talks about 5.1 output from Digital broadcasts. Bit of a shame really that from what I've seen, TVs generally don't pass the 5.1 from the HDMI to the optical output
