    Need help upgrading my PC.

    Hi all,

I bought this PC a couple of months ago:

    hotukdeals.com/for…751

But with upgraded RAM to 1gig.

I'd like to improve the graphics and maybe RAM so I can play a couple of simple games. I know nothing about compatability with graphics so can someone tell me if this graphics card would work and would be worth getting:

    ebuyer.com/cus…712

Can anyone recommend any other graphics cards or RAM? Bear in mind its a sub £300 PC so I'd like to keep it a budget PC. Prob looking at spending no more than £40 on the graphics card if possible.

    Cheers,
    Steve

Yes, that graphics card would work with simple games and is better than the Integrated Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator X3100 but I wouldn't recommend it because it's the entry level of the 7 series graphics card I'd recommend an 7600 GS because it's an mid range.

    A bit over budget:

    But well worth it.

I use wikipedia to check out GFX cards:

If your still thinking of that Graphics card you might aswell get an 8 series for around that price:

Sorry for hijacking the thread but which graphics card would you recommend with the same budget as steve_w's?

    I've got this ]motherboard

Brilliant - cheers for the advice. I ended up getting the 7600 GS.

I bought Age of Empires 3 today hoping I could spend the bank holiday doing nothing but dossing on the game...guess I'll have to wait :whistling:

Wasnt that a laptop?? It looks a bit too cheap for a laptop so I assume this is a normal PC.

Find out what motherboard do U have and if it has PCI-Express slot. If so get one of PCI-E gf cards. If I were U I would check if U can put in that motherboard somthing better than Celeron as this is the weakest part of Your PC apart from the integrated gf card.

    @yinujim
this is not your motherboard. this is a chipset that Your motherboard have. we/i need more detail to check what u can put in there.

I've got this PC, allready upgraded the RAM to 1gb

Ok. Thats better If U have too much money get yourself an extra 1 GB of DDR ram IF U dont just get a PCI-E gf card.

U can check that website as well benchmark.pl/zes…htm

This a list of gf cards with the best being on top Unfortunately the GF8 series is not included.

Yet for Your PC the ATi card would actually suit You better as the m200 chip is their construction as well and works wit it much better.
Make sure the memory is not 64 bit but more - at least 128 bit with at least 256MB of it.
I havent been in IT business for some time so I dont know the latest news, especially that there is a lot of gf coming out... dont be also fooled by ATis naming X1650 WILL NOT be better than X1600 if it has ie 64bit memory compared to 128 bit. They just call new models with higher numbers.

    Good luck
I might look for something tmrw.

No good setting a strict budget like that you'd be better of waiting until you have the money for a half decent card. However for £47 there is this card
ebuyer.com/UK/…986 which will be a big improvement to what you have. I would suggest waiting a little until you have around the £70ish mark then there a few good options for you. Not much point spending any more with your current specs.

Well eBuyer didn't have my graphics card in stock but I didn't find that out straight away. All I really want is enough of a graphics boost to play Age of Empires 3. I've got a PCI-E slot apparently. What do you guys think about this card:

    Thanks again
