i recently downloaded the java update on my other laptop and once it was done,my screen flipped upside down and now i cannot fix it.everytime i attempt a solution,my laptop shuts down.i tried to do an me-i tried an avg scan but it wouldn't let me.:(

Try booting into safe mode (hit F8 as the system is first booting). Also if you can enter safemode with networking and are able to get online, run housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/ in IE.

Mine did something similar a while back. I doubt that it's a virus. I presume you're using Vista?!?!? As birdyboyuk said, that will fix it.
