Need help with Ubuntu + Transmission

Ok, so I installed Ubuntu in Windows and now am facing a slight problem with Transmission (the BitTorrent client which is standard in Ubuntu)

The problem is that after restarting the computer, and logging back into Ubuntu, I open Transmission and it is unable to retrieve the preferences and settings of Transmission,
"Couldn't get information for file "/home/ramesh/.transmission/stats.benc" No such file or directory". I have no idea how to get around this...

Also, I get another problem where Transmission was unable to write to the download directory, "Couldn't create directory /media/Music + Misc"

Anyone that's good with Linux/Ubuntu willing to help me?

    Thanks.

Sounds like a permissions problem to me, try running it in su (admin) mode (Alt+F2, then type "gksudo transmission-gtk" in the box that pops up).

Failing that, seek and ye shall find:

thanks, i'd give you some rep, but it tells me i've given out too much in the past 24 hours...

Azureus works fine in ubuntu and is better than transmission imo, open the synaptic package manager (in system->administration) and search for it to install ;-)

By the way, you say you installed it in windows - did you create dedicated linux partitions?

I've used Azureus before, and I admit it is much better, but I thought it would be easier to use the torrent client already given in Hardy Heron. And no, I didn't create a partition, I just installed it on my secondary hard drive and chose to create a folder 15GB large for Ubuntu.

Remember the software thats on the CD is often not the best - its there so it will all fit on a CD... Nearly everything has alternatives available for a simple install by searching in synaptic. One of Ubuntu's strongest points is the ease by which extra software packages can be installed...
