    Big problem these days.

Sounds about right tbh. my nephew is getting ridiculous quotes. Try insurethebox.com - might be cheaper, don't know. Have you tried all the comparison sites?

    On which car?

wow 6 grand, what car is it for?

    Wow! what car is it?

what is he putting in the occupation box....if student he will be hammered.

gocompare.com is the best comparison site to use. confused.com usually comes out more expensive

trying adding if possible and adult as a named driver (Not main but addtional) took 200 or so quid off my daughters.

Admiral seems to be a decent young person insurer.

Also ring a broker and get them to do some leg work for him.

Try Wallase's 01246 866962 they always beat comparison sites for us.

Try the cooperative I got my car insurance from there & it was the cheapest around by far

I agree these were cheap for me when i was young as well as tesco both very by far not the cheapest for me now but maybe still for young drivers.

my brothers first car at 17 was vauxhall astra 1.6 and his insurance was around £2000 on that, i think he went with tesco, but I also think he had his dad as a named driver
£6000 is one hell of a lot

Can he get a tracker on his car? My friend had a tracker and he wasn't allowed to drive between 11pm and 6am. If you do you have to pay something like £50.

    i-kube.co.uk/

You haven't said what car he intends to drive and the engine size (_;)

    WHAT CAR ? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Best thing to do if he has a girlfriend is put her on, It says to the insurance company that he is not a "boy racer". Go to moneysupermarket or another comparison site and put it to the test

Its not a bad price if he is driving a Ferarri F50,

And if he is getting quotes for 6 grand he must be going for a car that he is not capable of driving properly if he has just passed!

Student is the worst thing to put because of all the thefts from collage car parks.

thats a lot maybe its because lots of boy racers have these cars so lots are involved in crashes etc does it work like that? still have you tried go compare or money supermarket etc.

jeez thats high i am 28 and just looking for my first car and 1.4-1.6l seem to be around the £1000 for insurance

has he completed the pass plus course might help him slightly

I used to sell tesco car insurance and they were always pretty good for young drivers. I had a vauxhall corsa 1.4 breeze and had it insured for £1200. It is always higher for boys you could try Bell and Quinn also direct line can be good for young drivers, they are a bit hit and miss though!

Would pass plus help to bring the cost down?

Been with them a few years now and still the cheapest for me.

Its a nightmare for young drivers nowadays - how on earth can they afford these premiums. Obviously a lot of them go visit the Bank of Mum & Dad but even still to be paying around £500 a month car insurance - no way!!!! I think if that was my premium I would get the bus!

Interesting website - does having that tracker make a big difference then. Seems a great idea.

what a absoulte nightmare it is in this country to run a car

Im on i-kube at £2.3k a year main driver 17 pass plus just passed with 1 parent as named driver, Corsa 1.2. Might be worth giving them a call?

Also try ringing the companys comparison websites are awful for young drivers. Ring tesco, admiral, elephant, direct line etc

    Hiya Becky,

Hope life is treating you well.

+1. Also, use price comparison sites. My daughter's quotes ranged from £700 to £7500!!!

Oh wow, is it really that high ??? jeez, I think at my top when I was 17 I was still only £500 and thats dropped as my cars have gotten, bigger faster and more flash.

Think I am around £300 odds for my 1.8 convertible, fully comp, legal over ad protected no claims, and I aint done pass plus and surprisingly I am not that old or sensible, I also work in a hotel which pushes up premiums due to the drink/randoms break in's/ and numerous hit and "run's"

Glad I passed when I did, and glad I have savings in my girls banks for when they start driving because the way it looks it could be the most expensive luxury of their lives.

I spent all day on the phone to get a family friends son fully comp insurance once, someone had wrongly told him a diesel would be cheaper to insure for a 1st time driver not thinking that the bigger engine needed to use the diesel would cost more, but no matter, got it, at a cost of £900, and the dopey sod wrote it off that evening at an accident blackspot well known in the neighbourhood. 8 hours after he passed his test !!!!!

I am in the same problem. The cheapest I have found so far is £4000. I am like allow this long thing. Get my A's in A2. Go Uni. Get Degree (if it is worth anything buy the time I finish). Work my way to the top. No long thing. Until then my bike is my best friend. Already spend like £30 on theory, 14 lessons = £560, Praticial £62. Its cost me the bomb.
