need some consumer advise please !!!!

bought my daughters new jackets around xmas time unfortunately didnt keep the reciept but at the time it was 2 jackets for 50 pounds out of republic.
The zips are broken on the 2 jackets so tried to take them back tonight but the girl in the shop said because i dont have a receipt she could only give me ten pounds for each of the jackets as the jackets went into the sale but surely if the jackets are faulty i should be offered the full amount for the jackets !!! anyone know wot the consumer law is for this .....:x

A receipt is normally needed to obtain full refund. But if you have lost it and you paid by debit or credit card you could try taking a copy of your statement to prove to them that you did pay £50 and not £20.

If you can't prove what you paid or when you bought it they'll refund current selling price, simple as.
If you don't have the store receipt if you paid by credit card or debit card take in your statement - that should suffice.. Otherwise.. find the receipt or take £20 I'm afraid.

I'm afraid that without the receipt they're within their rights to refund only what the current selling price is. :?

I fell foul of this just before Xmas with a pair of jeans from Fat Face, first wash and one of the back pockets split away leaving a large hole, took them back, and got 10.00 back on a pair of £50 jeans - very upset. :x

But lesson learnt! I shan't be quite so ruthless when clearing out my purse in future! Especially with expensive things!

The only problem with taking your credit card/bank statment in is that it only shows that you spent £50 in one transaction (if you did only spend the £50) - they could argue that it wasn't the jackets. It wouldn't be particularly nice customer service, but then there isn't very much of that about these days.
