Ok my specs is
WinXP 32bit
Asus P5N-E SLI mobo
E6550 2.33ghz dual core cpu
4gb Ram but only sees 3gb
Dual Nvidia 8800gs grahics cards

I have the 2 monitors connected to the primary card.
Currently using Horizontal span which is working ok. Is there a way to set it up so that when i play a game it only plays on one monitor and not stretching between them both ? Or do i have to manually select single display when i what to play a game ?

My monitors are a HP w2216 22" widescreen
and a
Phillips php-x19 19" widescreen

anyone ?

check for dual monitor software which might have options for this .....i know on my laptop im asked if i want to replicate the screen or stretch onto ,my external

will be software somewhere that does what you want

You need to set up your graphics card for dual view mode. One of the monitors will be assigned monitor 1 and the other will be monitor 2. After setting up as dual view, use Control Panel, Display Settings to re-arrange the "virtual" location of the aforementioned monitors 1 and monitors 2. This will allow maximise to fill the screen of the monitor in which the application is located so your games will be maximised on a single monitor only. If you are using SLI mode, I believe that dual view is not an option and another graphics card is required.

Dual view is available from the nVidia control panel. As I mentioned, if you are using SLI then it may not be available. The latest drivers support dual view but again only in non-SLI mode in which case you will need to switch off one of your monitors before launching the game.

not running SLI because when i do and i launch a game it freezes and i get the BSOD. So i am just running on card and i can enable dual mode so that both screens are active. I can either clone the main monitor or stretch horizontal. Which is what i stated in my original post but when i pay games the game is on both monitors and the centre is between the edges of the monitor.

It's just a pain to keep setting it to single display and horizontal span.

Which parts of my previous comment have you not tried yet?

Sorry but i am either missing something or just thick.... In nvidia contorl panel i set up multiple monitors but i see nothing for dual view. and in display settings when i click identify the 1 shows in the middle of both monitors....i have my monitors side by side and it shows on the right edge of one and the left edge of the other if you know what i mean. There is no number 2 that shows

Ah but have you also installed latest drivers or tried switching off one of the monitors? Switching off one monitor causes the horizontal span resolution to be halved.

Can you go to Windows Display Settings and tell me how many monitors it sees? If you can show me a screen grab of the Display Settings that would be useful. Windows Display Settings is available by right clicking the desktop and selecting the requisite option.

I couldn't quite make out all the information but it appears you have 3 monitors with 2 of them using horizontal span (the bothe of them beiing classed as Monitor 1) and the 3rd monitor being classed as monitor 2. If that is the case, on the Display Settings, click the monitor 2 (the small one on the right hand side), set it as the primary monitor and adjust the resolution to match that monitor's capabilities.

OK. What you need to do is to switch off the horizontal span as you have done and use single display. In the Windows Display Settings click monitor 1 and choose that as primary display. Next click monitor 2 and choose the option to "Extend my desktop".

On the display settings monitor 1 is on the left. This is the virtual monitor. Virtual monitor 2 is on the right. If you find that your "physical" monitors are in a different orientation, you can drag and drop "virtual" monitors 1 or 2 to set them to the same orientation as your "physical" monitors.

I'm out to sort out a customer's laptop so won't be back for around a couple of hours but the tips above should work for you.

thats aleady setup like you said. my maid monitor is the HP which is set as default. I click on my 2nd monitor "philips" and theres already a tick in the expand my windows box.

Going to uninstall and reinstall the drives now and see if that will sort it out.

i uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and now i can see the dual mode settings. i have it set up now in dual mode where i can drag windows and stuff to my 2nd monitor but all my icons and start menu is on my main monitor. I will play around with some settings and see how i get on.

Thanks for all your help. What was confusing me was the dual mode settings which i wasnt seeing but now i am as i reinstalled the drivers.

The way to have the icons on the correct monitor is to set the correct one to be primary monitor and drag and drop the virtual monitors. You'll get the hang of it.

yeah thanks again for all the help. I have the icons on the correct monitor now and my games only plays on one instead of both now. Just takes time to get used to how you want it now.

Well done. That was quite painless for me as explaining this to some people was a nightmare, apparently because my English is "too difficult to understand"?

LOL. Well i am not a computer noob so maybe that why it seemed painless. Once i uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers everything came together smoothly
