hi. my son went for an interview for the RAF today and got told he can't join because he has ear flesh tunnel from using an
ear ring stretcher. the hole is now only about 2mm but he got told it wont get much smaller and he can not join because of this..
I remember a few years ago that there was a cream of some sort that you could put on cuts to help it grow, cant see it on line anymore. don't know if they still produce this or if it will help close the hole, I've been to 5 chemists and they don't know...
any advice please as its such a small thing to stop him having a career in the forces.

thanks, that is an option we will look into if we cant find this cream

I agree with the above post, i'm sure the GP will be able to help you.Although it is cosmetic and may incur a charge. You can usually call the surgery and ask them to call you back to have a quick chat?

thanks. he will prob end up going to the docs .

I really doubt there is a cream available to heal a gap from an ear stretcher. Depending on the age/health/genetics of a person, new collagen can form for tiny holes (such as a piercing) but an ear stretcher gap needs stitches.

I had a nose piercing (side of my nose) in my early 20s which healed over time and you would never know it was there.

Hi as an ex serviceman what trade is he looking at

Big respect that someone is willing to show effort in joining the armed forces and trying to put "life's mistakes" right to enhance their chance/prospects.

Not many good "kids" (meant in good faith) around who deserve a pat on the back but this kid does.

stupid things these ear stretchers. Unless of course your son was born in the Amazon. I suspect they took one look at him and thought no chance!

Any scope of having an operation to sort it?

thank you. thing is the ear opening is now only 2mm as he hasn't used the stretcher for 18 months, seems a bit harsh for 2mm but I suppose its to do with infections.

You have to look at it in a different manner (yes I know some will disagree) the Armed Forces can pick and choose and they want the best from all that apply. I know it's trivial but in the whole manner of things and looking at it from an "employer" perspective... your son has "mutilated his body" - is there an underlying issue? Yes it's only 2mm but will it be an issue during battle conditions? Will this "modification" encourage other soldiers to attempt?

Yes some will think my response is not realistic but others that have served will hopefully have a greater understanding. Sorry if it offends anyone - it's not meant too - I'm just going by what I know and understand. 20 - 30 years ago it wouldn't have caused much issue but the Armed Forces are less in numbers now compared to then. But 20 - 30 years ago bullying was normal and didn't do any of us any harm!! but now hmmmmm

I hope your son gets the issue fixed and can continue his career choice I cannot fault him for his efforts.

If you find some cream that makes skin grow, let me and 95% of the male population what it's called (_;)

do you mean bio oil to help skin heal , scars , stretch marks ? i think its unlikely to heal 2mm hole, wouldnt do any harm to try massaging it it , as i understand these modifications are permanent as the skin has been stretched abnormally and alters the elasticity of the skin.

all the best to your son.

I guess I'm in the 5% then.....

too much skin and not enough stuff to put in it

Could try Kelo Cote ,although more suitable in reducing scarring it may help with appearance
