need to make some money ... with money

Ive got around £3000 for investment into something. Im looking for a return of around 400-500 on that, in a short while (1-2 weeks max).

Anyone know where I should invest it ?

I was thinking of buying a car and then selling it on at a profit but its a lot of hassle and Im mostly not in the country to be able to deal properly. So, any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

You want a 15% return on your money in 2 weeks??? Only way I can think is financial spread betting, Ftse is very low at the mo, potential to make 100% or more in 2 weeks, just as much chance to lose 100% though so not worth the risk IMO.

I think 20% return in 1-2 weeks is knee-cap territory

I would say best bet is to learn matched betting or something like that...

Is there a thread anywhere that explains matched betting?

    Mini Cash ISA?

    *edit nvm 1-2weeks

Simple answer is there is no fail safe method of doing so, especially just for £400-£500. It's not worth it.

agreed, if there was a way of getting that sort of return with no risk then everyone would be able to give up work and live off whatever it was! If you can wait a while for the money then you could always ask all friends/family if they're doing car/home insurance soon and as they're probably not using quidco you could give them 10% and keep the rest? Also could do loads of refer a friend offers but again will take upto about 4 months to get the return. But you'd only need 2 or 3 friends to take part to get the 400-500 you're after.

I don't think any HUKD member has made a thread but I know there's a detailed introduction on mse betting forum I think.

Have you been spamming MSE again. :? ;-)

I think your best bet would be to buy a couple of cheap cars and get a quick return on them...

Although you would need to know a bit about cars and be prepared to put some work in (such as really valeting the cars and sorting out issues which may involve putting more money in before getting a profit).

spread bet 5 on the ftse dropping. if it drops to 5730 then you've made 500 from your 3000. it's dropped about 1000 in the last few weeks so another hundred is likely, although not guarenteed! remember you'll lose as much if it goes up!

I knew the variables I entered in my first post were not going to be 100% realistic. So, from your posts, I would say waiting longer than 1-2 weeks is fine by me. Say, same amount of return but within 6 months ? Hows that ?

Any ideas now ? MiniISA is a good one to start with I suppose (Y)

It's made a slight rebound today too so far- I wouldn't touch it at the moment as it's so turbulent- I'm not brave enough

Absolutely no point in doing premium bonds. You are better off putting it in a high interest savings account and taking £1 every week to buy a lottery ticket!

    lol

Try ebay, stuff like bulk buying nintendo wii's, a new one goes for 180, plus 20 postage.

i used to ebay a lot, but as im out of the country and busy with work ... its becoming increasingly difficult to sit with ebay and make ads etc.

spread betting : I would stay away as its too much of a risk ... very much a 50:50 chance of making/losing money. good for when desperate though ...

well you'd only have to make 1 add then put it on multiple times ;-)

suppose you'd need someone to do postage though,

Still your odds are pretty pointless. Irish lottery, higher odds. Or scratch cards. Bad habbits though..

Your best bet Cyrus, is to do what I have done for this weekend's football.

Stick £5 on a ]Betfair multiple (will explain how, if you are interested).

    Portsmouth v Bolton
    Fulham v Middlesbrough
    Everton v Reading - DRAW
    Tottenham v Derby
    Man City v Man Utd
    Liverpool v Chelsea - DRAW

Odds of all 6 of these happening are 128.00(ish) so a £5 bet will net you £640.

Do you subscribe to this site Duck? If so, is it any good and is it worth £10 a month?

thanks a lot Ian182, but to be honest I want to stay away from betting and look at proper investments. I just dont want to have to rely on luck.

Thanks all the same though !!!

The one I was recommended is arbspy.com/ - never used it myself but it looks like a blog and a speadbetting search...

The matched bets aren't luck if you do it properly... you get on different things so that no matter what the outcome is you'll profit.

Thanks Ducky! I've heard about it loads of times but didn't know what it meant

Refer a friend offers are the way to go. It'll only take a few hours of your time and you'll need 3 friends but you'll make yourself £600 and you'll make your friends about £400 each! If they fancy giving some of it to you then that's even better but trust me, this is the way to go. PM me if you want more details.

Not worth doing premium bonds or lottery tickets. Premium bonds returns are something like 3% for the average person. Obviously someone wins a million and their return is like 9999% but if that person isn't you then your money would have been much better in a high interest bank account.

Lottery tickets provide something like a 30% return but you don't get your money back so you actually make a 70% loss! Again if you win the million then you've made a big return, if not then you're pretty much guarenteed a loss. If you like gambling go and put £3,000 into a fruit machine and see how much you get back, my bets on it being around the £2,000 mark!

Been watching usd/jpy, down to about 113. Good price, not sure where it's going next though! That and eur/jpy and gbp/jpy should make a healthy return but who knows whether it's going to drop loads and you lose all your money!
