Need to pick a Uni course....

Uni open days are about to start so I need to start thinking about what course I want to do at Uni so I can visit the relevant universities.

I would like to do a course involving sport, or sport related but I hate anatomy and physiology so physio courses etc are out of the question.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Well depends what kind of career you want after you finish uni. Do you want to be a fitness instructor? football coach? PE teacher?

If you are applying for 2009/10 your a bit late to apply for uni unless your going through clearing the dealdine for applications for 2009/10 was january sometime

Take a look at Lougborough, excellent choice of sporting and combined sport courses with fantastic facilities.

I don't know really. I've been told by many people that as long as you get a degree you are an attractive procept to many employers regardless if your degree does not relate to the business you will be working for (apart from law, medicine etc where it's specialist).

I want to do something sport related at Uni because I enjoy it. I'm not going to do a course for three years that I wont enjoy.

I don't really want to be a fitness instructor, football coach or PE teacher though.

Have you thought about studying in the USA?

Yeah I've slighly considered it. My cuz went to the US for Uni. The Unis out there look very good however I would prefer to stay in England.

sports science dnt know much about that type of course (im an Acounting and finance student myself)

eh i would strongly recomond not going to the US unless u crap out moneys youll be looking at upwards of $20000 a year for a decent uni

I could probably get a scholarship for the US but I still don't really want to go there.

I really don't like science so I don't think a sport science course would appeal to me.

Hope you find a course that suits you JFK, Good Luck:thumbsup:

    Thanks.

The stuff about "any degree" being fine is utter bull - things like media studies really does not compare to the academic degrees. If you don't believe that go and sit in on a "non tradtional" subject lecture without ever having studied it. Chances are it'll all make sense. Try the same with Maths, Law, Medicine, Languages and you'll be clueless. Degrees aren't equal; if you don't want to do anything sports related then a sports related degree is a waste of time and money; graduate earning premiums are much smaller than they used to be, and university is getting more and more expensive (£3225 this year for most courses and probaby much higher by 2011).
Pick something you either love, are great at, or will get you towards where you want to go in life. Don't blow 10k+ studying something completely pointless.

I am aware that some degrees are worth more than others. I know someone who finished Uni last year who studied geography and landed a job at HSBC shortly after he graduated which suggests that having a degree can land you jobs outside the field you have studied.

Have you actually visited a uni yet? Until you start looking around at them you won't really get an idea of what it's all about. It's best to go on a few websites and look out for some open days

Yeah, open days start in the next few weeks.

I might make a few phone calls to some Unis to see what they suggest.

TBH there is nothing I'm seriously interested in other than sport however a lot of sport courses involve science which I hate.

I'm loosely thinking of taking sports psychology which I believe isn't too heavy on the science.

In all seriousness, if you are already earning £60K (if I remember correctly) while still at school, why not do that full time after finishing school? You could employ people and make an absolute fortune.
You will never make that kind of money "doing something in sports" especially if you are not prepared to put in the academic hard graft.
    Something to think about.

I can run my business along with another job. If I was to run by business 'full time' I wouldn't earn that much more money. I am already near maxium output.

I want to go to Uni.

    Cheers geeza.

LOL, why the hate for UCAS?

Yeah, so many courses and they are so 'specialist' and precise which makes choosing the right course very hard.

You want to work in the media when you graduate then? Do you currently take Media Studies?

yeah i do media studies, but its a load of CARP. dont reccomend it, Bit of a waste subject really.

and yeah hopefully become a screenwriter/ journalist.
This course at bournemouth has 1000 applicants and only 40 place, and i got one so i was pretty happy!

But yeah watch out - unis tell porkys. I had a offer for journalism which claimed it was one of the best in the country - it wasnt acreddited by the NUJC which means i would have to take another years course afterwards!

You should think about the job you want - for example journalism there is not much respect for journalist degrees as an undergrad. Its a much better idea to do a course in something then do a grad in journalism apparently.

Also.. studying in America is a NONO. i looked at it and it would cost about 30 grand... A YEAR.

    good luck brah.
