NES Screen Tearing/Flickering

Any idea why parts of the screen on a NES game would be flickering?

This is TMHT and the life bar flickers. I'm using a Retron clone console.

Other games have a part of the screen that does something similar.

Thanks

Because of limitations of the NES/cartridge hardware, it's all to do with the sprites allowed on screen, if you're just playing the original cartridge then that's just the way they've always been. Emulation could probably fix graphics glitching.

So it would have been like that back in the 90's on the original NES?
Yup, slowdown and flicker was common on pretty much all NES games.
