I'd like to buy a netbook for my wife's birthday. I've identified 4 that look likely candidates but would appreciate some advice as to whether any significantly outshine others?

amazon.co.uk/gp/…294

or

amazon.co.uk/Ace…1-3

or

argos.co.uk/sta…htm

or

amazon.co.uk/110…1-1

Prices all in the £200 area - could go a little higher if needed.

I need to choose today - all help MASSIVELY appreciated!

  2. Netbook

Would this be better posted elsewhere I wonder?

I'd probably go for the Acer personally. All similar specs at quick glance, but the Acer looks better IMO (having said that I've seen the HP Minis and they look good too.)

Defo not the Packard Bell!

I'd rather die than buy or use any Packard Bell branded computer.

My thoughts (these are my opinions and I cherish them!)

I would rule out the Packard Bell since it is the same specs / OS as the Acer, and my wife has the Acer and likes it.
I would rule out the MSI on the grounds of battery.
That leaves the Acer and the HP. One comes with XP, the other comes with Win 7
I would choose between those 2 based on the OS, or perhaps colour available if it was for my wife. If I have to choose for you (you can blame me later if you want) I would pick the Acer based on what my wife says.

Thank you all.

I had dismissed PB machines until recently when I found out that they are rebadged Acers, at least I think so, anyway.

I was erring towards the Acer also, until I found this:

amazon.co.uk/Pac…8-1

Massive reduction but I wonder if there's a catch?

Apologies for being a dithering idiot!

That one has better spec but also has Vista! That alone would make me ignore it for either Xp or 7. But your choice...

The Msi Wind U130 is not bad you still get a few decent hours out of the battery pluses are the new N450 processor and windows 7 additional argos are selling them on ebay refurbished for £159.99 plus £3.99 P+P.

Thanks all. Went for a "regular" Argos MSI in the end for ahem personal finance reasons (I had a credit note of sorts) and needed it quickly. Quite impressed when setting it up and will be absolutely fine I'm sure for her.

Again, help and advice much appreciated.
