New car advice -- Waxoyl treatment, or similar

Hi Guys and Gals, recently got a nearly new car for the first time ever.
Really excited ... but its got to last me at least 15 years.

Anyone got any tips on preserving the car for as long as possible. Just thought that if I can do stuff now that will make it last as long as possible I've then only got myself to blame if it starts rotting after 5 years !!

Do people still spray underseal or Waxoyl under the car - would that stop it rusting and help preserve things like track rod ends and suspension parts ?? Would it invalidate the warranty if I had it done ??

Any thoughts and comments are welcome ...

Think the engine and gearbox will give up first
Really depends on the type, model and usage of the car. These days seeing a rusty car under 10 years old, without any accident damage is rare.
Would be worth finding an owners forum for your particular car and ask there.

If you were to get anything, look into a flexible under seal. You could get the bonnet and wings clear wrapped to help prevent stone chips.
Regular washing using the 2 bucket method will keep it clean and swirl free.
Most cars have an anti corrosion warranty on them but theres a slight catch, they say you HAVE to have full main dealer service history and get them to check the paint during every service. I've had a couple of Audi s3's that suffered rust and Audi moaned one didn't have full Audi service history, then said the other had been sprayed when they put the paint gauge on it... I know for a fact cars get resprayed in the factory if the lads on the line mark them, so before you even get the car it could have been resprayed!

Under seal people still do it but it's not a common thing these days.

What kind of car is it you're buying? 15 years is a long time, in the past 15 years I must have been through about 50 cars I just get bored so easily
Oneday77 .... the wrapping sounds like a plan . I'll look into that.

Toon_army.... its a suzuki sx4 scross. I don't get bored easily. Its no looker but compared to my previous bright green suzuki wagonR its like a Porsche !!! I'll be driving it like a vicar as I like to save fuel and money!! Guess thats why I'm on hotukdeals !!

Distorted vision .... thanks for the link. Good tips
Remove all undertrays .clean everything . Spray underside with under seal or a wax coating . Refit under trays and spray again . Store inside ;not on the road or driveway .

I bought my mam a little Suzuki Swift few Christmas's ago and she loves it, cant think of anything to get her this year so more than likely trade that in and get a newer one. Touch wood the only issue in 3 years is 2 tyres, back box and the front passenger piston seal went on the caliper. Her last car was a VW Lupo and everything bloody broke
I drive like Miss Daisy myself, not to save fuel I've just gave up driving fast as it's not worth losing your licence.
Hope the Sx4 goes well for you, I'm sure it will though and I honestly wouldn't worry about rust.
Just asking, but do you think petrol stations will exist in 15 years ? I assume it’s not electric.

100% lol theres so many petrol heads it'll take a hell of a long time for them to die, only way is probably when we have no oil left but my then our generation will be dead
I like the idea of electric but really doesn't bother me, I love the noise and smell of a proper engine

There will always be petrol or liquid fuel. It is a strategic survival and defence fuel (especially in times of strife), electricity is unable to satisfy the widespread portability and storage to power ratio of liquid fuel.
As for 15 years from now, a good fraction of cars today and ones bought in next 5 years, would still be on the road in 15 years.

Don't put in garage when wet or it will rust. Lack of air circulation means it won't dry. Waxoyl INSIDE the sills.
Good luck keeping any modern car from falling to pieces. If is your daily driver it will eventually brake and become a moneypit
Hi OP, I have a Ford escort rs cosworth. It was my uncles and I bought it from him with 600 miles on the clock(he's also a car collector). He owned it from new and it still looks it today. I've only ever cleaned it using an industrial steam cleaner and various gentle detergents. The underside of the car still to this day looks like it's just been built. I've never driven it on a wet or even damp day.

It's now got just over 3k miles on the clock. And still has the brand new car smell due to how it's been stored.

I would only recommend going to these measures if you believe it will one day become a classic.
Thanks evryone for the advice and tips.
My car isn't electric. Thats why its got to last 15 years... hopefully by then electric cars will be viable and I'lkl be ready for one !!

My car will never be a classic but its my pride and joy after moving up from old bangers for the last twenty years !!
