my advice is to wait 6 months and those 8 series cards will have dropped to a more realistic price.

why not just make it yourself its much more cheaper and also you will know the build quality will be good as you built.

for some that may not be a reassuring thought

Thanks for the replies. I've had a look myself and you can get an 8800 for £250.
As for waiting 6 months I've already been waiting 6 months. I need a new PC for the likes of Bioshock, STALKER, Hellgate, Crysis, which should start arriving in March.
As for building myself, I've done this before so I could do it again. I just thought that its sometimes better value to buy a complete package. But I don't actually want a complete package...

Searching......be back soon.

Just remembered this in the hot deals, has your raid 0, and costs £678. You can sell the monitor and the 7900gs for about £220 making your current spend just £458 leaving you over £500 so you can add the best graphics card that has ever been released, (8800gtx I think, never really looked into it) and sell the processor and put a 6600 in and still have change from £999!!!

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45871

You could even try calling them up and ask them how much they would charge extra to put in a e6600. A lot of people say thay have had a good chunk knocked off the internet price by haggling with them on the phone.

If you did it this way I can guarantee that you will not be able to beat this price, even if you built the same spec yourself.

This is the cheapest 8800gtx i could find at just £378 delivered:

ebuyer.com/cus…988

So lets look at the big picture here. You go out and buy the PC for £678, you then buy the card for £378 costing you £1046 in total. But you now have a brand new spare 19" Dell monitor and a 7900GS graphics card. You sell these for no less than £200 this will take you total spend yo £846. Take into consideration you only have the e6300 in, but I dare say if you did phone Dell up you will get them to change this to an e6600 for just a few quid more.

So all in all I reckon for £900 here is the package you will get:

E6600
motherboard
2gb ram
320gb (2x160gb) stripe raid 0
dvd writer
vista premium
8800 GTX 768mb (the best)
case
keyboard/mouse and some speakers. (Will come in handy for spares or sell the lot for another £20 off your cost if you wish).

You may also look into what PSU comes in this machine as you may have to upgrade to cater for the new card.

Absolute bargain mate considering to build this yourself you will be looking well over £1,000, depending how you would source your OS.

Well researched beerman1! It is tempting. £220 for monitor and GPU? I reckon nearer £150 if lucky but you never know - people buy anything on Ebay.

I like the haggling idea but I'd lose the Quidco discount. Downsides :- possibly weak PSU and motherboard (tweekless and non-SLI). I can hand-build for under £1000 but the graphics card wouldn't be as good and the CPU would be an overclocked 4300. Hmmmm.
Cheers!
