    New Gaming PC advice

Hi Guys, no idea if right place to ask but I need to replace my ageing i5 2500k , hd7950 basically for gaming for the future, probably only 1080p not 4k.

There seem to be some members on here who really know their stuff, so any advice would be grateful.

I am probably going to go i7 4790k over the i5 6600k, although opinions are split on this but thinking for the future (not future proof lol) and then a 1070 and a decent 27" monitor.

    One idea is awd-it.co.uk/int…tml £444

Tempted to try and wait for the Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals but would like to get this all finished for BF1.

Yep have always built myself , just a bit out of the loop, my 2500k doesn't feel 5 years old but starting to show it's age.
You think the 6600k over the 4790k? Is that just to spend more on the gpu ?

Totally agree, I nearly bought one when they first appeared but thought they would drop but no such luck and with the $ so weak or demand so high it seems to be pushing the price up.

    i would either go for 6gb 1060 (£250 approx) or 8gb rx 480 (£240 approx)

at the end of the day it depends on your budget, but have a look on uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/
and see what you come up with

yeah will be waiting till then to upgrade my boys pc with a 6gb 1060
hopefully prices will be a lot easier on the eye on black friday

If you are only going to game at 1080p I see no reason to upgrade your current cpu. Your graphics card is the limiting factor so why not just upgrade that and see how your system does then?

Was thinking the same actually as I would buy a new gpu anyway. I am a battlefield 1 fan and just looking at the minimum spec it said the 2500k wasn't good enough but mine is overclocked anyway. The beta seemed to work ok , I had no problem on high settings.

My brother had a 1st gen i7, something like the 820 and I have a i7-3770k, both of them could easily play 99% of games on Ultra at 1080p with an amd 290X.

If you do aim to upgrade the cpu then go for 1440p... Go with a 6600k / 1070 if you can afford to.

That's the problem I can't decide between the 6600k or the 4970 as I may go 1440p in the future. Looks like most games don't need the 4790 multi core but maybe the newer games ma start requiring it.

Well I personally have a 5820k if you can afford it go for the 4970k

I would stick with the 6600K CPU for now, unlikely a game will need more cores in the near future, when it does you will probably be coming round to the next upgrade anyhow.
Only get the 1070 if you actually think you will go 1440p, otherwise 1060 6GB will be fine until next upgrade when you'll likely go 4K.

Unless desperate wait until next year. Having similar specifications there is little requirement to upgrade as most of the AAA gaming titles still run satisfactorily on a I5-2500K on medium settings. The main reason for the delay is waiting on the Zen (Q1 2017) and it's rivals Kaby Lake (2016) / Cannon Lake (2017) processors, but also the newer 4K 27 Inch IPS Hybrid technology* (AHVA) / PLS panels (AU Optronics, LG and Samsung) running 144hz will be released in sufficient quantities. Furthermore the consumers should see the rivalry of AMD / Nvidia intensify again with the release of Vega (AMD) and Nvidia (1080 price drop) and revised DP / HDMI standards needed to run the monitors!

Just to be aware with the Brexit, prices for components could increase not drop (even with increased supply) as the exchange rate ($1.28 to £1 currently) deteriorates further. Thus instead of the rough $1 to £1 ratio (as the figures include transport, VAT, Excise & Duty costs) for each product it could be worsen.
