My husband's hard drive has just died. Where would anyone here go for a new one (preferably online). He needs a 3.5" IDE, with a minimum of 100gb but preferably more. Told him people on here would know the answer. Rep left for all useful replies.
Thanks xx

If it is an older PC best to check the documentation to see if there is any size limit on the hard drive.

Some older motherboards did have a size limit.

I'd either by used or a SATA and use a SATA PCI card or a SATA IDE … I'd either by used or a SATA and use a SATA PCI card or a SATA > IDE adaptor otherwise you'll get killed by the price.

sorry read op incorrectly

When you say the disk dies! Who said the disk died! are you sure?

I've fixed around 15 pc's in the past month because a windows update has knackered the OS! PC world and call centres will tell you you need a new disk but every singe disk has been fine!

Ok you may want a new disk but if you had pictures or personal files that you think you have lost! you probably havn't!!

As for disks. I'm very fond of WD disks. I have several and they have not failed me yet!

So, are you saying the hard drive may be fine? My husband is convinced that it's broken but, if it's not, any idea what may be the problem?

Very possibly!

What is the issue?

Does it make a funny noise when it starts up?

Do you get an error message? maybe "NTLDR is missing"

Do you get the windows boot options (safe mode, start normally etc) but it never boots up (maybe sticks on mup.sys (in safemode))?

Can you see the disk in BIOS

Depending on your level of knowledge it may be over your head (thats not meant as an insult in anyway)!

Thats a good starting point!

Come on, I want to fix your hard disk!
