We have decided to go with a new ISP to move away from BT since the contract has ended, hoping to get a better deal.

Would people be able to recommend me a good ISP offering at least 8MB unlimited broadband.

Im not in a cable area.

you won't find any unlimited services any more, its become industry standard to say unlimited* subject to fair usage.
sky service will probably be great in a few years when they are an established broadband provider and have ironed out all their problems
if you go to a cpw store you can get a free dell laptop for signing up with aol 8mb

Maybe, but some have a better understanding of the usage of the term. Ive never heard of anyone ever being kicked off BE for instance and their "softcap" is 350GB. Anyone exceeding that sort of figure really should get a fixed line IMHO. Having said that, it is reachable withtheir Upto 22MB connections!

Also some of the worse ISPs eg Virgin, plusnet, throttle your line. Personally I think that should be illegal, but they get round it by saying they only guarrantee you "Upto" 8MB etc.

Sky all the way if you live in a non-cabled area, and you can get on their LLU service (base, mid or max = 2meg, up to 8 meg or up to 16 meg) - constant speed and no traffic shaping or port blocking! free eveneing and weekend calls too.

im currently on thier 20mb cable line and yes they do throttle between 4-12pm but i just do the majority of downloading before 4 or after 12

does not affect me greatly

plus customer service has always been good, installations smooth and quick and thier deals to keep me to stay were very good

i recommend these to any1 whenever they say who they should go with

and speeds maintain thier quoted speed as cable comes down a fibre optic cable meaning distance and other factors dont affect it

They give a 3gb allowance before they cap u and tbh the only way u are gonna go over 3gb a day is if u ahem torrent/usenet leech *cough cough*

so for the average user of using the internet, streaming videoes etc etc u will get the full 20mb

But haven't you already admitted that Virgin throttle during peak times ie 4pm until midnight? Or when you say "cap" you're talking about throttleing?

To be honest, doing this daily is a bit rough as well. I never use torrents, but most definately can hit over 20GB in one day.

Why would they do that. They use a premium rate number to make money - not give it back if you dont like it!
