New Labour - The most tight fisted govt ever?

It is being banded around that the Police have received pay rises amounting to 39% in the past decade. It is a known fact that inflation halves the value of your shopping basket every ten years.

Now, let's weigh this up ...

39% >> minus 50% ...

Hmmm. Not something i'd be trying to use as an excuse for a paltry 1.9% wage rise. That doesn't even cover the rise in Council Tax :x

Tight fisted

Is it really worth going to work nowadays, or are you better off being a dole scrounger? We've never been so well off, my ars!

hmmm and backdated to dec 1st! disgusting!

It's 2.5%, backdated to Dec. So in effect it's a stealth tactic to give just 1.9%.
Utter rip-off.

ermmmmmmmmm maths not being my strong point but aint 50% off 39% 19.5%:?

Original Poster

I just realised. That 39% over ten years supposedly puts the ol' bill at the top of the pay rise ladder!
If a real terms 11% decrease in wages is the best you can hope for, what hope for public servants in other branches of service?

You are probably right sassie. I just did a straight subtraction to make my point. Your calculation makes it even worse LOL
What a state heh? Who would have it if they realised how downtrodden they actually are?

No different to under the Thatcher years!

scrooge

No different to under the Thatcher years!

big difference , thatcher would look you in the eye then poke it out without the deception shown by labour

i was glad to see the back of the old school tie conservatives and had such great hopes for the next goverment but ended with a new tie generation of uncareing , elitist and abhorent ``people`` , i wonder what classification a dicatorship comes into ? absolute power remove the house of lords then , control of the people so cctv and create laws its impossible to live under without being a criminal , keep un scared and manipulate

Not your fault, I should have made the post a little less 'off on a tangent' LOL

The figs ...

1997 - £100 buys you £100 in old money
2007 - £100 buys you £50 in old money, plus £39.

So, you are £11 worse off against 1997 v inflation.

The govt will spin it of course, they will say that you are better off. But they won't take into account that they changed how the inflation figure is worked out to make inflation look lower than it actually is.
You are right izzy. This govt wouldn't even give you a reacharound before shafting you. In fact, they will shaft you then swear blind that it had not actually happenned if you look at the figures

Snidey jobsworths. I will never vote Labour again. I can tell you that, as a lifelong (until now) Labour voter.
