New laptop, HELP!!!

So I'm thinking about getting a laptop, for a few reason. My partner and I are hoping to go backpacking round the world next year and we thought it would be handy for saving photos, emailing home in Wifi spots, watching movies, making video calls home (so would like it to have a built in webcam etc etc.

But for the next year unti we go away it will be used for surfing, downloading, saving music, photos, playing Sims 2 or Football manager, depending on who is using it. Also for writing CDs and DVDs.

I fancy a Dell but have heard of they have problems with charging etc, so my next thought is a Toshiba, had one of those before and it lasted really well. My price limit is £500, but would prefer a little bit cheaper.

So my next thought was to go for a refurb to get value for money, my first stop is PCWorld as I will get quido there. Any reason to not go for either of these suggestions??

So was looking at this model:

pcworld.co.uk/mar…jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0351673649.1237564477@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccgdadegkieldfkcflgceggdhhmdgmh.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=453747&category_oid=-28487

Any thoughts, better suggestions etc?

I know what you’re saying about refurbished laptops but new ones with a full year’s guarantee aren’t that expensive any more. I’ve had a quick look about and if I were buying one for what you stated above I’d look at something like this

ebuyer.com/pro…887

Good price, good spec does what you want and free delivery!

forums.notebookreview.com

some good advice from members on here if you fill out the standard questions form and post it up under what notebook I should buy section.
