New laptop needed.

Found 26th Jun
just had a nightmare few days with dell outlet so I don't think I'll be going further with them.

ok, so I need a decent laptop (windows) for photo editing. I shoot in RAW format so processing power and memory are all important.
I have been trying to get:
core i5 (quad core preferably)
256ssd (would I be ok with 128?)
8gb ram
and I would like a 15.6" screen. Full hd obviously

here's the hard bit...I only have a budget of £500 ish.

Every time I find something like the spec, then the reviews of the screen, the battery, the company...all put me off.

is there anything out there for me?

Blimey, it started to sound like a lonely hearts column at the end

You're going to struggle to find that spec for £500 or under - especially a HQ SKU of the i5. (HQ is a Quad Core, U is a dual core).

You could save some money by simply buying a laptop with a normal HDD and then buying the SSD later.

If you can stretch the extra, this is the cheapest I could find in such little time laptopsdirect.co.uk/ref…asp
Thanks for replying M0nk3h. I'm starting to think you might be right. I guess it's going to be a compromise with the spec or spending that bit more.

The advantage is, I've found far more i7 HQ laptops than i5 within the £600 to £750 price bracket so you may even get more for your extra.
This is the cheapest i find with i5-7300HQ

Thanks for this Cisco.
I did find a cracking system on Dell outlet for just over £500 incl vat but by goodness I've had problems between them and the bank!!
Not to worry.
Currys are selling a Dell Inspiron with i5 and 256 SSD, for a penny short of £600. I might have to night the bullet and take the plunge.
Thanks for having a look for me though and taking the trouble to reply, it's much appreciated.
