I'm looking for suggestions for a new laptop with a budget of around £500.
Will be for general home use and some office work

Don't Amazon have a sale on this coming week? Might be worth at least waiting for that. Other retailers may respond to price drops as a result.

Thanks yeah I have scope for up to £600 but would rather keep it closer to £500. Just looked... wouldn't the Dell Ryzen 7 be generally superior to the Asus Intel 5 you linked?
