Yeah I think they usually advise a good long charge before first use. Also it is always best to let the battery go dead before recharging, it 'trains' the battery to hold its charge longer. A spare battery is handy, that way you can always have a live phone.

When I worked for a mobile company we always advised a minimum of 16 hours upto 24 hours for the first charge. It enables the battery to reach its full potential. (apparently!)

cool thanks guys, i just want to play with it lol

can you play with it but let it charge at the same time do you think ? lol
you know how it is, new phone, new gadget etc etc just want to get into it and play

I thought the battery memory was only on older ni-cd batteries. afaik li-on have no memory, I should think charging and using at same trime would be ok, my first mobile would not charge whilst switched on!

In mosts cases 7-8 hours charge is recommended, check the phones manual as this varies between manufacturers depending on the type of battery in the phone.

The initial charge is not that important anymore I have tried various options when getting a new phone and battery life always stays the same. What destroys battery life is the continued charging of a battery which is not empty, i.e. charing when you get half a battery.

It shouldn't really be an issue with Li-Ion or Li-Ion gel-polymer batteries, they have negligible memory effect. It IS a good idea to let it fully discharge and fully charge in the first couple of charging cycles however to ensure it is correctly calibrated.

Remember the charger switches on to trickle charge after typically 2 hours charging (ie gives out roughly a tenth of the normal charging current once the batteries charge has reached over 90%). Leaving a battery charging for an excessive amount of time is bad for it as it causes the temperature of the battery to increase, reducing its lifespan...

So with the li-ion battery (which is what the Viewty uses) i dont really need to charge it for 14 hours etc etc, i could use it whilst its charging - which wont affect the performance of the battery or anything??
