    New PC build

    Evening all.
Going to build my own PC and after many hours of research have come up with the following spec in the next post. Budget is £350.
Would appreciate any opinions/advice, particularly any compatibility issues, although I think I have everything covered.
The one issue I have is the OS. I have looked at buying Vista from Ebuyer at £50 with a free upgrade to Windows 7, but i'm a bit confused about the licencing issues regarding new systems.
Another option would be to 'borrow' a copy of XP or Vista and buy the W7 Student upgrade (my son has a school email address) but again i'm not clear on the intricasies of this.
Anyway, all comments welcome, good or bad!!
    Jeff

Only 3 cores, but performs as well in tests and has a higher clock speed.

Although I can't see why your RAM wouldn't work.

You could also swap out for an X2 550 (Good dual core) or X3 435 (Good triple core).

    Eeewwwwwwww AMD & ATI, yuck.

Under ~£150 neither Intel nor Nvidia hold the bang for buck crown for me. Intel's nearest comparable processors (E8400 & Q8200) cost at least £20 more.

ATI's new DX11 range is very good on power use and is similar to that of the GTS250 (HD5750).

I have looked at the other CPU's, but went for the quad core for as its mainly used for multi-tasking, video editing and online gaming (nothing too heavy)

I've been reading a few articles on installing an upgrade version of W7 on a new hard drive, without having XP or Vista installed, and it seems to be quite easy to do.
Has anybody had any experience of this?
Would save me a few quid if I could buy the upgrade version

If you're not demanding a huge amount from the graphics you could actually fit in an ]X4 955 & ]HD4670 (Plus my original spec) for £352.
