New PC needed - build or buy?

    Hi all,

I've decided I want a new PC. I was thinking something like Quadcore, 4gb RAM, 1TB HDD, 1024mb graphics etc etc. Question is, do I buy one 'off the shelf' or build my own? There are so many variations these days. I will mainly be using it for general use, but I like to use Flight Simulator so wouldn't mind beefing up the graphics & memory.

For those that build their own, which sites do you buy the components from?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Theres very little price difference, the only advantage of building is that you put exactly what you need.

I have built 2 but I would not build another. Too much hassle and very little to gain in terms of price.

I bought most of my components off ebuyer.

Cheers stiffnuts. That is sort of the way I was thinking. I built my last one, but since then the market has changed so much that I was really struggling to justify spending any time building my own when I could just buy it.

Depends, store/company made ones generally use the cheapest parts you can find and the OS is full of bloatware and Custom builds are cheaper, might only be £50 or less but still saves a bit of cash.

Only other thing going for company made is an easier return system.

The pre-built ones use cheaper parts, especially the motherboard, also the CPU tends to be the OEM version.
If you build your own with a reasonable a mobo ram and retail CPU you will be able to over clock it and get a much faster machine for your money.
Only viable if you know what you are doing.

i have built 5 pc's, i can put one together from scratch and boot up in under an hour,
there no hassle once you have all the correct componants.

id NEVER buy an off the shelf, there componants are very cheap and usally blow up within a year.

this looks good enough, but it only has 512MB graphics, but its built for gaming.

cyberpowersystem.co.uk/ i cant reccomend them guys enough, i was contemplating wether or not to build my own pc, but i took the plung and went with them and i have to say the price difference was non existent and the service was brilliant.
