I can build PC's so I can look at it, just worried if its a fault I cant fix they might try and say I messed about with it.

anyway have tried it twice to power on so far, first time it took about 5 minutes to get to the boot up screen from the Compaq welcome screen, then another 5 minutes to show the Vista loading logo(the bar) then 5 minutes more to show a black screen,. then 5 minutes later a mouse icon appeared.

I then rebooted and it went to the Vista loading screen quite fast then stuck again.

Off to a bad start. Return asap for refund or replacement.

Yeah, don't mess about in it or they'll just say you've invalidated the warranty, get an RMA number from them and send it back, mate.

I'd definitely return it, if its like this now whats it going to be like when you actually start to use it?

Its not whether or not you could fix it, its the fact that you shouldnt have to

return it immediately or if you want use the warranty and get someone to fix. Just let you know, I recently bought a laptop and didn't return it immediately and got the warranty people to come fix it twice. Still end up not working and had to get a replacement. So my advice is to just replace it from the shop immediately.

But btw, I just remembered something similar that happened a long time ago with my desktop. All I did was pop in the format cd that comes with the desktop and reformat it (it shouldn't affect the warranty). Worked from then on. So try this if you know how to reformat to save yourself a trip back to the store.

i would but its a recovery partition which I cant access as it wont load lol

Nah this is PC World we are talking about, I took apart the last 3 faulty PCs I had from them and they didnt even check, I forgot to send the keyboard and mouse and MS works disc once, other time I left my 320 gig HD in there as I took out the 250 gig one with OS by accident. Other I installed parts that crashed the PC.

Each time they just gave me a refund.

Not good, out of about 7 PC's in the last year that they have sent me 6 have been faulty(only 1 working is my current one)

and you keep going back :?

I don't believe a new boxed computer can be faulty 6 times out of 7. You must be the problem. Stop opening the damn case!
