    New Vacuum cleaner - Dyson/Miele??

    Morning,
I hope you all had a great Christmas.
We would like to buy a new powerful upright vacuum cleaner. We are looking for a Dyson, but will take recommendations of other brands.
Has anyone seen any good sale offers around, it can be on or offline.
    Thanks

Hi, my experience has not been good with Dyson. I found the cleaners heavy and did not last very long despite a hefty price. I have since bought a Miele, which is quieter, lighter and cost considerably less. If you look on the site you will be able to pick up a 20% off voucher for Comet.

    Hope that helps.

I wouldnt have a Dyson if it was given to me.Complete rubbish.Just look in boot sales ,how many are for sale for £20 or go to your local tip and see how may have been thrown away.
Not sure if Miele do upright vacuum cleaners .
Have a look for Sebo upright vacuum cleaners. They are sold in John Lewis.Excellent cleaners.Well worth the money.

Sorry to hijack the post. This code 15MIELEVAC gives 15% off. Hope it helps!

IMO i have never had a problem with Dyson...

    These look good...

I haven't heard much good about the Dyson. I have had an Oreck for at least 8 years, it's very light (can be picked up with one hand easily) and it's a brilliant vac. My cleaning lady has just bought one for herself as she's so impressed with mine. She got hers from EBay at a good price.......

Dyson are the best by far and the biggest seller, had mine for 5 years with only one broken belt replaced free out of warranty.

I recently bought a new dyson directly from dyson. They offer a five year guarantee everywhere but what I found was that when I called dyson they offer to send you a brochure of their products. When they sent me this there was a £50 off voucher and so even though dyson sell their products without discount directly, you can often get it cheaper than the net direct from them. Not sure if they still do this voucher but just thought I would let you know.

WHICH? magazine has Miele cylinder cleaners as regular Best Buys, both for performance and reliability.

They never used to give Dyson's Best Buy status due to reliability problems but now that they offer a 5 year guarantee they have started receiving Best Buy ratings; their performance has always been good.

I have a Dyson (the wife hates it) which is coming up for 3 years old and never had a fault.

Recent WHICH Besy Buys are as follows. The majority are cylinders as they always give the best performance.

Miele Cat & Dog TT 5000
    Miele S4211
    Miele S4511 Premium Line
    Nilfisk Extreme X300
    Miele S380
    Miele S5210
    Miele Parquet and Co
    Dyson DC14 All Floors
    Dyson DC14 Origin
    Bosch BSG71800 Formula
    Sebo Felix 1 Premium
Dyson DC15 The Ball All Floors
    Dyson DC18 Slim All Floors

I had a Dyson 01 and cylinder model too

Both were awful to use IMO (heavy to manouver, and all noise and not much suck) and I was glad to see the back of both

They were both pretty useless at picking up all the stuff in my carpets that the kids and the cats managed to drop

Then I got my Miele, last yr for half price when Allders closed down

Wow, its fantastic! Super suction, light to push, light to carry, strong and robust

I'm delighted with it, and my youngest can ride it! (he couldn't ride either Dyson!)
(That's gotta be the best reason to buy a Miele!!!!)

Have to say I like the Dysons, my first being the 01 model, granted they are heavy but soooooooo powerfull. I have nothing but praise for the after sales service Dyson offer (I went direct to them rather than through the retailer)

    so Dyson gets my vote!

Can you tell me more about the 20% off Comet voucher? Can't seem to locate. Thanks!

Hi, the 20% seems to have expired although the 15%, mentioned by Foxy 102 - 15MIELEVAC worked on the S381 AT £99.99 the other day. The snag for me is the vac is white.

if anyone could add to this post -
its an upright that vacuums and also washes we are looking for.

    anyone got any ideas?

Just wanted to say thanks for the tip about Miele. I found this thread searching for Dyson discounts and decided to buy a Miele instead (I'd not heard of them before). I'm so glad I did - the Miele is fantastic, so powerful if practically sticks to the floor, and so much nicer to use than my old Dyson cylinder.
