Anyone know of decent cheap hotels/hostels in new york. Money dictates where we're staying

I know some cool places, but it very much depends on age heh heh.
You're saying Hostels, so I assume you're under 26, if so STA travel are your best bet, I know that both the Chelsea and Gershwin (stayed here numerous times) are really really nice.
The Chelsea is cool and you can get really cheap hostel rooms if you don't mind sharing, hostels can be grim though, and I recommend the private rooms at the gershwin over a dorm room (obviously )
The best deals from the Gershwin seem to be through STA, it's cheaper than the online rate.
Another one I like is the POD hotel - www.pickwickarms.com it's newly renovated and the suites are really cheap if a few of you are going.
The best deal for this hotel is normally www.hotels.com about £20-£30 cheaper than booking through the internet direct.
Pickwick arms can also be found on Expedia and Lastminute so you can see if you can get a deal there if you're travelling very soon, or combine it with the vouchers that sometimes come up for those websites.

There's also a morroccan themed hotel, which has been newly renovated called cityandshow.com/Hot…r=3
the Marrakech Hotel, I'm loathe to recommend it as I haven't stayed there, but it looks okay and it is newly rennovated so can't be that bad, and the location is okay. City and show quote £652 for 7 nights for a room that sleeps 4 and that's an absolute bargain
If you're really really strapped you can stay outside teh city at the airport like near JFK, and you can get the train in everyday, but that's really no fun!

hope it helps

NO PASSPORT :giggle: going to the US of A :giggle: Homeland Security :giggle: LOL :whistling: Good Luck :w00t:

There's got to be loads of cheap hostel options in NYC? Check one of the backpacker hostel sites for options.

You can get fast track and premium passport applications (as little as one day). Of course you have to pay extra for this.

Edit: Actually you can't get Premium one day on your first passport. So the fastest is the Fast Track one week which is £91 instead of £66 normal cost.

Edit2: check hostelbookers.com for some hostel ideas (or go to a bookstore and peek at Lonely Planet NYC or similar). cheapest I saw was Continental Hostel for 9.97 Euro/night.

At least the Passport Office in London is almost next to Victoria Station, straight in from Brighton by Southern!

(And for those wandering round in circles trying to find it - it's the one with the green windows! It's quite comical seeing people walking around looking at a multi-map printout trying to find the Passport Office ... I do normally direct people [I work close by!]....)

EDIT: {Hang on, I'm getting confused! Crazy1 comes from Brighton - dantoe12 might not, of course!!}

Although as the OP has 3 months or so before travel, there is ample time for the standard service. The Check and Send service at the post office for a little extra, should get you your passport back a bit quicker.
