Newcastle host Leeds in their only pre-season friendly at home, newcastle still hanging under uncertainty and a vibrant young leeds side still searching for promotion.

Come on you whites!

Leeds United will travel to face Newcastle United in the former Premiership's side only home pre-season friendly.

The two clubs will meet at St James's Park on Wednesday July 29 (7.45pm) for what promises to be a mouth-watering pre-season contest.

Simon Grayson's men already have two clashes lined up against Premier League opposition - with Blackburn visiting Elland Road on July 25 and a trip to Burnley lined up for August 1 - and the clash with Newcastle is another good pre-season test.

"It should be a great game for both sides," said the United manager.

"Newcastle are obviously preparing for what they hope will be a promotion-winning season for them and we are doing likewise.

"It may be a pre-season friendly, but I don't think there would be many people out there that wouldn't say that Leeds against Newcastle doesn't have all the hallmarks of a Premier League game.

"It should also be a good game for the fans and I would think that we would take a good following to St James's."

It will be the first time Leeds have played Newcastle since our own relegation from the Premier League. Eddie Gray's side were beaten 1-0 at St James's in January 2004 on our last visit.

Our last victory at Newcastle came the previous season when goals from Mark Viduka and Alan Smith secured a 2-0 win for a Leeds side managed by Terry Venables. Interestingly, both Viduka and Smith featured for Newcastle last season.

the mighty grimsby held us to a 1-1 draw tonight, although half our squad went down to london to face the terrifying wealdstone(we agreed them a friendly when we took beckford from them) and guess what ......we lost 2-1:oops:
