I was having a convo with my mate today. She thinks that if your with a NHS dentist and are other 18 you dont need to pay for a check up. However ever since Ive been over 18 my NHS dentist has started charging me about 15 quid just for a check up. Whos right?

My NHS dentist charges as well.

As soon as you hit 18, you're liable to pay for everything dental wise. The only way you don't have to pay is if you are in full time education, certain benefits or are on a low income and recieve a NHS exemption card.

According to the NHS website here: nhs.uk/Hea…spx
then as long as you are in full time education then it should be free. I'd suggest you raise this matter with the dentist and find out if there's a way of claiming back what you paid

Alright cool. That website says: "18 and in full-time education"

Its kinda misleading, does it also mean people over 18 too or what, lol?

I'd assume it's for anyone that's in full time education as you can't get a full time job whilst in full time education whatever your age is, but that's only a guess because as you say, it doesn't actually say 18 and over.

I would normally say check with your dentist as they would know, but in your case, maybe not :-D

am fairly certain that you have to pay as soon as you're 18 - whether you're in full time education or not. My son (just left uni) had to pay as soon as he was 18, as did my two older daughters. £15 for a checkup sounds about right on the NHS.
Clarifies it here ppa.org.uk/pdf…pdf
Can get free treatment at 18 or younger and in full time education. Can only get it above 18 if the course of treatment started at 18 or before.
