He will only be remembered for promising low university fees and then having to back track. People will forget he was in a coalition and there has to be give and take. He did a lot for minimum wages and putting up tax allowance for the low income people.
I have never voted for him but think he got a raw deal and was made a scape goat.

All the man is doing is pointing out that wto tarriffs are not going to be a good thing agriculturally...

surely being blind to challenges is worse than taking them on, eyes open?

Fair point just over the last few weeks the man has been doom and gloom

He was worse than a puppet, He sold his soul to the Conservatives, Backfired and damaged LibDems for good.

Like many in Westminster he was probably looking forward to a cushy well-paid job with the EU (like the Kinnocks), hence why he is trying to resist Brexit.

Quite frankly we need people injecting a dose of reality into politics, especially now. Speaking of 'constructive' criticism, this post certainly isn't an example.

A great example of what type of politician not to be. Awful man.

Nick Clegg? Who is he again?

An articulate, clean-cut and generally reasonable and measured politician with an exceptionally smart, and fit, wife.

    versus

A puffed-up individual with an EU blind spot who let the meaningless title of Deputy Prime Minister go to his head whilst crumbling too easily on tuition fees.

    Conclusion

He can go if he wants, but let Miriam stay.

I would tend to go along with this. It was a tough position to be in with a need to temper some of the Tory policies whilst also being very much a junior partner in the whole affair.

What he seems to be doing now is advocating for a more measured approach to Brexit, which suggests he actually cares about the most vulnerable in society who will be disproportionately negatively impacted by Brexit. Those who say he was looking for a 'cushy' job in the EU clearly don't have the first clue about the man considering he was a Member of the European Parliament years ago.

As it is he seems a decent sort even if I don't agree with all of his views.

    Who?

He appeared to have great potential, but when the chips were down he turned out to be just another weak politician. He is fully to blame for the LibDems' current ignominy.

the Lib Dems agreed to a lot of stuff in their coalition agreement that they were uncomfortable with, such as university tuition fees, in order to get a referendum on AV on the table.

the tories are a lot more experienced at political chicanery and presented other Lib Dem election pledges that would be popular as their own doing, such as the raising of the income tax allowance.

the LDs were naive and stitched right up imo, including by a hostile press, for becoming uneasy bedfellows with the conservatives and unfairly shoulder much of the blame for things gone wrong when the tories were usually at the root of it.

labour needed booting out and this was the only way to do it at the time. the last year or so has shown what could have happened back then if the tories had had unconstrained power.

So what if his wife is Spanish?

And Nigel Farage has a German wife...

Nick Clegg's other broken promises."Ahead of the 2010 general election, … Nick Clegg's other broken promises."Ahead of the 2010 general election, the then relatively shiny new leader of the Liberal Democrats, one Nick Clegg, unveiled a poster warning of a "VAT bombshell" under a Tory government. "We will not have to raise VAT to deliver our promises," he said, wearing his serious face."Ten weeks later, under the new Tory-Liberal Democrat coalition government, the same Nick Clegg, now deputy prime minister, and his new Conservative colleagues announced a rise of VAT from 17.5 per cent to 20 per cent.

when they saw how empty the exchequer's coffers were.

btw, the chancellor was george osbourne.

not sure what clegg and the rest could have done seeing as they had little control over fiscal policy.

never mind that they didn't conceive they might actually be partly in power.

The point I was trying to make is that he would be entitled to a Spanish passport if he no longer wanted to live in the UK after leaving the EU.Not what you are trying to make it out to be no wonder the country is going the way it.Also for your information I voted to remain and I have just got to the point where I am fed up with the threats that are coming from the EU and am now glad we are leaving

Every Local LibDem Campaign I have ever seen here. "Voting Labour will let the Tories in, Vote for Us to stop the Tories".
Then they joined them at the Hip.

That fact alone got them booted to oblivion the next chance the electorate had and rightly so. Now Labour seem to be following them in the abyss.

No deal posted as yet and four recent activities in :
    Nick Clegg
    Nicola Sturgeon
    BREXIT
    Corbyn and Labour Party

So pointing out that Nick Clegg's wife is Spanish and then suggesting that 'someone show him the door to exit the UK' doesn't actually mean that you think that he should leave the UK because his wife is Spanish.

Perhaps you should proof read what you write before you post it in future?

Nick Clegg will be remembered for three main reasons, 1. backing two losing Referendums, 2.saying one thing and doing another once in power. 3. trying to disrupt the Democratic decision by the British people to leave the EU.

None of which I think he's doing for personal gain. There are MPs out there who could be said have conflicts of interest or something personally to gain from their political positions, but is Clegg one of them?

The original post about having a Spanish wife and showing him the door read like this: he is married to a foreigner so he can not be a true Brit and can do one!

Being married to a Spaniard does not entitle you to a Spanish passport just like being married to a Brit does not either.
