    Nigeria

To the people of Nigeria even though our western news outlets and politicians turn a blind eye to your pain, know that there are those among us who know of your plight and the disgusting unforgivable acts of the terrorists group whos name shouldn't even be spoken by civilised people.

stay strong Nigeria, fight those dogs who dare kill or enslave your children.

Solidarity to you and prayers for the 2000 souls who's cries last week were ignored by western media.

we in west must not allow our governments to use the french events as a excuse to lessen our freedoms in our steps towards police states, we must shout no to our governments we are not going to fall for it, instead we should demand they help tackle the monsters in Nigeria.

    Well said OP.
You have to be quite depraved to strap explosives to a child. Their ideology targets everyone and anyone, Muslim and Christian who doesn't agree with their warped views.

How does not commenting show contempt?

France is 20 miles away from our shoreline and was a news story that could immininently affect us directly, Nigeria is not. Out of sight is generally out of mind.

I understand what you mean, but the attacks and murders in France have been shocking because it's very close to us and France appears to be a stable, civilised country.

Nigeria unfortunately has the reputaion of being a cesspit of longstanding horrors and attrocities and It's people's way of life so differs from ours.

We are far more easily able to identify with the French and therefore, show support and solidarity with/for them.

I would also say that the average person knows very little about Nigeria, but in recent years Nigeria has become synonymous with internet scams, which is something most internet users are familiar with.

The stereotypical image of a Nigerian is that of a scammer, the likeness of which is satirized by Phone Jacker etc.

Therefore, threads such as yours will not attract serious comment or debate. Sadly.

Boko Haram only started such atrocities in Nigeria within the last 2 years. Before that there were little or no terrorist reports out of the country.

Such horrors and atrocities are actually more common in this part of the world than back there. So your point though understood isn't entirely accurate.

So what you are saying is 1 life really is worth more then another in the eyes of the British public, I find that tragic and depressing, we make this world with our thoughts and feelings nothings ever going to change with with such contempt being ever prevailing.

I am a londoner I have met many more nigerians then I have french people, all have been very nice normal people, to think that others base their level of sympathy and solidarity on how close they perceive the living conditions in a country to be to their own is disgusting and damn well stinks of colonial mentality imo.

Interest in the France story will wain and will instead turn to a different cycle of news.
I think it happens in most countries, not sure it is just a UK thing more a feature of modern life and the information stream.

In a country where absolutely corrupt officials rule the cities and religious extremist terrorists rule the outskirts, im afraid theres not much hope...the UK and USA dont have the resources to'police' the world, and even if they did try to assist they would no doubt be slagged off for putting their noses in other people's business. I sincerely hope peace and goodwill return to Nigeria, but im afraid it may take a long time.

8th Largest producer of Crude oil. Get out much ?

This is an horrific set of events, NIgerian leaders need to reach out for assistance if they want it.

What is incredible is the near silence of the Nigerian president, zero leadership!!

A day after gunmen killed 12 people at the French satirical weekly, Charlie Hebdo, in Paris on Jan. 7, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan issued a statement condemning the “dastardly terrorist attack.”

About the Islamist raids that killed hundreds of people in his country, in the northeastern town of Baga last week, Jonathan, 57, and his office have said very little. One of his spokesmen, Doyin Okupe, posted a Jan. 10 Twitter message questioning the reported death toll, while another, Reuben Abati, didn’t answer calls to his mobile phone today.

such a small percentage overall. like I said not worth the hassle.

Really disappointed reading some of the comments in this thread!! I gues people don't really care about what happens in the rest of the world.
Stereotyping and assuming things about other people/cultures is nothing but ignorance.

Perhaps people in this country will do well to remember that the killers in france weren't born there and we have the largest amount of nigerians in the whole of europe, nothing is ever not your problem no matter how far away it is, we are one planet everyone travels, when crap happens somewhere the repocussions are felt much further.

Nigeria will come good i am sure of it.

They will destroy these terrorists eventually.

Responding to an urgent question in the House of Commons from the Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather, Swire said the UK’s contribution to the United Nations’ central emergency response fund and the European Commission’s humanitarian aid and civil protection programmes in 2014 was £1.7m, and that the Department for International Development’s budget for Nigeria was one of the biggest in the world, at about £250m.

Criticised if we assist, criticised if we dont - 250mm is not pennies for the UK which is running a huge deficit - Goodluck needs to ask!

The sooner we can live on another planet the better, then we can leave all those with imaginary friends behind and let them kill each other then come back in a few years and start again......... or just give the apes a chance.
