Nintendo DS Lite case replacement.

Hi all. Anybody attempted to replace a DS Lite case from one of the kits which are advertised online? Got a friends second hand pink DS lined up for Daughter but she had her heart set on a brand new Red one in Game. I found some complete shell replacement kits which allegedly have all the necessary bits'n'bobs to do this but I was wondering if anybody had attempted it and could recommend a kit or even if it was worth doing at all! Cheers.

I found the cheapest place to buy replacement shells to be dealextreme, although it does take a few weeks for delivery. However if the pink case is still in good condition I really wouldn't risk replacing it, since so many people have broken DS Lite's attempting to replace the casing - its a really fiddly job.

I have just replaced my first casing and even though I have experience taking stuff apart, read a guide, and took my time, I still managed to break one of the speaker wires whilst reassembling but at least thats easily replaceable if you know how to solder. If I had broken the flex screen cables I would have had to buy a repacement screen, and there are plenty of other parts that could be easily broken.

Good luck if you decide to do it

I got one of the Deal Extreme kits, came with all of the necessary bits. I have step by step instructions on replacing a DS Lite case, I can e-mail if you want.

Yes please, will take a look and see if I'm 'up for it'! Thanks.

Instructions sent.

Sorry to butt in but do you need any special tools for doing this job? I'm wondering whether to sell mine as a broken one or replace case and then sell on.

You need a "tri-driver" which is small jewellers type screwdriver with a three point head, also available from DelaExtreme for about a $1
